Road Trip
Drove it to Santa Maria today on business. Left home at 3am, arrived at 630am. Such a gorgeous drive, especially that early with no traffic.
After leaving Santa Maria, instead of taking the 101 south back to Socal, I went through the 166 in towards Bakersfield. 90 miles of twisty California hills... lovely, just lovely. Weather was cool, overcast, but dry... and man, loving the grip and control! Best car ever! Drove it through the twisties off 166, down I5, through I210 and the 57fwy... down the 71, the 91, and finally arrived home a bit ago. That detour added about 1.25hrs to my trip, but it was sooooo worth it. Traffic was light. That area up there, central-west Cali, has some of the best twisty roads anywhere, hands down. To top off a nice 1 day road trip, some Mustang got a bit brave with me as I hit the surface roads near home. Passes me while I was at the light, and decides to rev his ride. Sounded decent... so at the next light (cars in front of us), I show him how a revving engine should sound like lol. Got nothing back from him after I gave mine a go... then just to top it off, I broke the rear end loose for a bit as the light turned green... again, nothing from the guy lol. All in all, today was a good day! This past weekend cleaned out the air filter and cleaned up the throttle body. About 10k since I last cleaned the TB and it had some gunk on it. Car even felt more responsive and lighter after the clean up, though I clean my air filter often. Clean your air filter and throttle body!! Keep that engine running clean! Here's just some eye candy, parked at a shopping center at 7am in Santa Maria CA this morning. Still love to look at it and take pictures of it lol; |

Tasty. The car looks great, loving the stance on those wheels. Looking at the pics and reading your story, I could almost feel the joy of the drive.

Cheers guys! Thanks for the kuddos on this beast. Can't believe my love for the ride hasn't dropped off after owning it for almost 7yrs. 117k miles.
Now for a real treat! I was in Norcal yesterday too in The Sacramento Area. While I was in the area, I found this... |

Your car looks sharp, and it sounds like you had a great trip! So, how many miles did you drive?

My wife and I recently got back from OUR road trip... SoCal to NorCal, through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho again, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and home again. 3540 miles in nine glorious days. Yep, found a lot of beautiful roads out there, damn straight some of the best are in CA. We ended up on a lot of backroads, off the beaten path, in NorCal especially... just WOW!

Now THAT'S a road trip! I can imagine heading up past the bay... I saw wild turkey up in the Norcal area last time I was there. What a fun drive I bet. |

Been cross country 3 times in our's. Killer car for two to tour in. If you ever get far enough south you'd love Hwy 8 from San Diego east toward Arizona through the mountains. If you go in Jan there's no traffic and the views are as wild as the lay of the road.

Nice stories guys! The 5th gen will always be the newer classic Camaro. The late 60s are cool in their own right too.

I'd like to do a few long road trips in mine, but I'm concerned about the inevitable rock chips that will happen.
I really want a clear bra (Xpel) on all the foward facing surfaces. However, scraping up the $1.5K-$2K necessary to do all of that is proving to be rather difficult right now. |
