Request for shipped VINs to test railcar tracking
Hey guys,
UPDATE: I no longer need requests for specific VIN #'s because I am manually checking every possible VIN number (from #1 to the highest one I can find shipped) every day. I can assure you (and so can my fingers), I check every VIN, every day. Some of you have asked what the different rail codes mean so here is a rough list: Departure - Railcar has departed the city listed enroute to next big city along the way. Arrive In Transit - railcar has arrived city listed Junction Recieved - railcar has arrived at a junction to be handed off to the next railroad to haul it Hold or Delayed - self explanatory, could be many reasons. This is usually less than 24 hours Release from Customer -railcar was released from customer (could be GM or the receiver at the other end) Placed Actual - railcar is actually placed at the location it will be unloaded Bad order - railcar has a mechanical problem and needs repaired (usually less than 48 hour delay) Bad Order Release - railcar has been repaired and is ready to move again Arrive Destination - railcar has arrived at its current destination Pulled from customer - railcar was pulled from the customer's location (GM or receiver) Placed Construct - railcar has arrived its final desination but there is not room to unload it yet (will move to placed actual when the room is available) Storage - railcar has been emptied and is now being moved to storage I am trying to work on a way to track the railcar shipments by VIN number. I work in the rail industry and have access to some tracing applications that may work. I am not sure it’s possible but I need some information to test it out. Does anyone have VIN numbers that they know for sure are in transit by railcar? You can PM me or post them here. Thanks! I don't have any specific VINs but I you should be able to pick some ones from http://camaro.spasticsquirrel.com/ to see if you can find them. All of those cars are built so many, particularly the further away ones, should be going by rail.

No luck so far on these VINs, but I will keep trying. If you find out your railcar number from your dealer I can definitely track those for you and give you an ETA. I will keep plugging away on trying to trace by VIN.
Thanks!

Guys,
Call your dealer. Ask, no tell, them to call the Dealer Business Center. The DBC can give the dealer the rail car number, the rail company(s), and the final distribution center. With that info, you can track your car all the way home. This will only apply to cars that have actually shipped out by rail. |

FINALLY! Okay here is the info for: 2G1FT1EWXA9102894 Car: ETTX 853165 Current Location:Battle Creek, MI 14 Apr 18:43 ET Dest: Milpitas, CA Please be patient if I am slow. Not all the VIN's seem to be showing up on the railcar records. I will do the best I can. (plus my boss doesn't seem to like this site! ) Just my way to pay back all the great people on the Camaro5 forums! Thanks,

I recall back around 2000 when GM came out with HD Silverado and the Duramax engine there was a website like this devoted to them. Well one of the site members worked in the Flint truck plant and he would for anyone who requested it on the qt look up the ship date and rail car number using an order number I beleive. Back for 9/11 if was easy to track a rail shipment. I recall this one truck for a fella out in CA. The guy in the Flint plant took a photo of his truck jest before it left the plant. This guy was then able to track the rail car all the way to CA rail yard. Every night he would post the time and what city the rail car was last in. Seems to me it only took 5 days cross county. He was able to find the rail yard in CA. he bribed or otherwise gained access the yard and was there taking pic's when they removed his truck from the train. Then he had to wait several days to get it 50 miles to his dealer. It was interesting but after 9/11 everything went secure and tracking of rail cars was not that easy anymore.
It was interesting.
