I do'nt trust what GM representatives say for 3 reasons (don't understand this as disrespect):
First, if they really knew what would happen the next 3 years, then they 'd have anticipated today's crisis 3 years earlier.
Second, I can't imagine them telling the truth to competitors.
Third, I think it's strange to hear the Z will come out in 3 years ... just a little below the 4/5 years average people tend to keep their cars ... I find it strangely perfect for the "Buy an SS then trade it for a Z28" logic ...

I guess everything will depend on the sales number. If it's bad, they will forget the Z. If it's good, I'm pretty sure the vert and the Z will come out earlier than expected.

Ok, I also want a Z28, can't buy an SS to trade it for a Z28 (I'm european), and find it horribly long to wait 3 years to have the GT500 killer.
Positive thinking

Well, we'll have to wait and see to find out what really happens.

Hey, do you guys think the Z28/bumblebee hood will be functional? Ram air would be pretty cool.

So far the hood is the only thing I would even really want from the Z28 as far as looks goes. And there's tons of people that are going to buy it once its up for grabs so I'll probably just keep my stock hood and upgrade my car as far as performance (headers, exhaust, etc.) and in 3 years I should be able to stay right beside the Z! I don't really like the front fascia on it but everyone has their own opion.

If a Z28 comes out it will blow the doors off the base vette and will probably be the same price if not cheaper than a base vette. Also might be able to compete with the Z06 which costs $80k?? something like that. What would Chevy do??
The Camaro and Corvette really don't have as much overlap as people here assume. They share the following similarities: V8 engines, Chevy bowties, 2 doors, and 4 wheels. The Camaro is a blunt instrument, more muscle than anything else, whereas the Corvette is a true sports car - light, nimble, sleek, all-around sporty. And it isn't unusual at all to have the top model of one car go above the bottom model of the next car. A Cobalt SS, or even the next lower model can easily cost more and be better equipped than a bare bones Malibu. I really see no problem with that positioning.

The only thing I'm upset about is that my hopes for a Z-28 that reflects the heritage of the original and is better set up to go around a track that isn't a drag strip or drive along a road that isn't a straight flat boulevard are now pretty much officially shot down.

Its all good till they say come get it,if you pre order the Z28 it would be like the ss models that pre ordered other orders that came in after March 16 has the ride already while others who ordered early are still waiting.I guess you have to play it by ear.Would also like to have the Z28.

they should have just worked a z/28 into todays lineup and right now we should be watching them work on a new rendition of the copo with the LS7. not a big fan of them doing things backwards i think chevys still hurting themselves more then they rally have to.

i agree the z was designed to meet certain requirements and now they've thrown all that out the window and now are just using the Z/28 name to try and impress people. i don't like the idea of it being a SC LS9 chevy never has installed Supercharger in a camaro and i don't think they should start now let ford with there small displacements except the new snake have to. im all for natural aspiration

Well that somewhat answers my question and quest for the Z/28. Don't know if I can wait another two years with my '97 Pathfinder that has 215K on it. It sounds like the SS can be made into the Z and I can have it earlier. If only all the dealers around here didn't charge the extra $2500 to $3000 over MSRP for the 2SS/RS. They said I can get a 2LT for $300 over dealer invoice. Shows everybody that there is a waiting line for the SS and nobody wants the LS/LT here in the Northwest. More decisions, more decisions. Wait and see and hope the Pathy lasts or wait a little longer till the perfume wears off the 2SS/RS or bite the bullet and order now.........hmmmm, I have waited this long, so I can wait till the dealers are selling them at reasonable prices. I don't think I want to wait 2 more years. If I do, it will give me plenty of time to clean out the garage since it will not be stored outside in the driveway.

I think 2012 could shape up to be a great year if any of this conjecture holds true. Of course, I doubt SVT will leave the GT500 in its current configuration, either. We already know it will be losing the cast iron block and getting an aluminum one. Assuming the Z28 gets the LSA, its 550hp/550tq rating coupled with the Camaro and a lighter GT500 with the current 540hp/510tq would make for a heck of a matchup.
