They should put at least a 3.8 L v6 on the new Camaro
They should put at least a 3.8 L v6. They can get more power from it. Back in 2002 they had a 3.8, I know they didn't have the same power as today, but with a New 3.8 with today's technology will be perfect.

It would be a larger operation than just updating the engine. It would basically require a brand new design of engine that has been designed to 3.8L

Worse gas milage? I don't know.
I think people are getting way too excited about the V6. Just let it be a V6. 312 HP is plenty. A couple of mods here and there and you're good to go.

The next generation of V8 will be smaller as well, with an increase in power and fuel efficiency. Don't get hung up on displacement.

The 3.8L V6 just went out of production last year and it only made 200 HP in the 1st gen. LaCrosse and 197 HP in the Lucerne. The 3.6L SIDI is vastly superior.

Assuming the 6thgen weigh's less, fuel economy and acceleration would pick up without more displacement

Wrong the 3.8 made 230 HP back in 1997 as a Super Charged version in the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.... Gas Milage was about 25mph on the highway and 17 around town. I know I onwed one back in 97. Also the Turbocharged 3.8 put out even more HP in the 1984 to 1988 Buick Gran National and T-Type. Many of those cars were running in the 13's and some in high 12's with intercoolers and few modifications.

As stated above, in the future cubic capacity won't mean as much. Technology is just getting better, and there will be a move towards direct injection and maybe even popularizing S/C and T/C on smaller, more efficient engines. The V6 Camaro is a prime example of how a relatively small engine can pump out just as much if not more power than an oversized V8 could just a few decades ago.

The 3.8's design dates to the early 60's. It had it's day and then some - it was a great engine for the last century. I've ridden in a fair number of cars with the 3.8 and while good, it doesn't compare to this new SIDI engine. I am hoping for a good FI system for these new v6's, either from the factory in the next gen or from the aftermarket. Would be nice to have another 150 or so hp on tap with good gas mileage for the regular commute! |

Couldn't help myself but, "there is no replacement for cubic displacement"

But not as much torque. The V6 sucks when you are running the air conditioning (cooling) unless you keep it in 4th gear. Forget about 5th or 6th.
