If butt dyno is all you are concerned about it depends on how sensitive to speed the butt in question is. That didn't really come out like I wanted it to.....anyway it's just a matter of which one gives you what you are looking for in the power, appearance, and practicality departments. The Camaro SS would be my choice.

The 5.0 feels a little quicker off the line, but the SS definetley on the top end. One has the weight advantage, and the other has the power. The 5.0 I drove had 235's on the back, wtf would you put that on a 400+ horsepower car is beyond me.

The bottom line is that they are almost identical in performance, with some reviews having either ahead by a small margin.

Everyone has their own butt dyno calibrations. You are better off just driving both and seeing which one you like more.

I personally think it's Faster. But the fact that it has a live axle in the back really turns me off.

Thats like 1960 technology. JMO

Why bother, just keep your Honda and don't worry about it. Purchasing a vehicle shouldn't be based on which one is 1/10s. faster than the other on a dyno.

I owned a 2010 camaro SS with 6 speed manual for a year and just traded it in a couple months ago and got a 2011 5.0 mustang. my highly calibrated butt dyno says the camaro is faster but the dragstrip times say the mustang is faster. I ran a 12.75 bone stock in my mustang and it's an automatic. mustang trapped 112 mph and the Camaro trapped 107 mph in the quarter

If you're considering buying either car, I suggest driving them. . .

I knew someone would say it.

Though having driven both, people are right that the pushrod LS3 is much better at low-end torque than the 5.0. Not that the 5.0 doesn't have plenty of low-end torque, but the LS3 has even more.

As for the "butt" dyno question, in my opinion, off idle the LS3 as a small edge with its low-end torque. Once you get up to about 3000RPM, the 5.0 has a small edge, given its lighter weight, and lower transmission ratios. The 3.73 gears would make it even better (I went with the 3:31s on mine).

Comparing model for model stick vs stick as others said the SS pulls harder to say 4000 rpms, the 5.0 pulls harder from 5000 rpms on. Comparing automatics I feel the stock for stock the 5.0 pulls better throughout the power band, but disable the restrictors on the SS with a tune and they would probably be dead even also.

Unless you ran both cars on the same day, the comparison isn't all that valid. My car's trap speeds varies from
110 mph to 115 mph depending on the Density Altitude.

Also, your Mustang's an Automatic. With your 6 speed manual, it was up to your driving skills to run a fast time.

Most LS3s will trap faster than 107 mph in decent conditions. Heck, I watched a stock L99 A6 trap 106 mph in +2000 ft. DA (hot and humid Florida weather).

My guess is if both cars were run in similar conditions with skilled drivers, their trap times would be very close. In every head to head comparison (same day, same track) I've seen both cars trapped within 1 mph of each other.

ls3 feels like it has more torque, 5.0 seems like it has a more smooth powerband up until it hits real high rpm's then it pulls pretty well. it also feels like even though it has a SRA it handles and rides better than the IRS in the camaro. JMO

It did feel a bit faster to me. Not a bunch though.
It sounded way better than the SS stock, and seemed to handle the same.
Just wasn't as good at the bumps. Railroad tracks felt like mayhem in the 5.0.
The Camaro has the grunt as mentioned.
I bought mine because I thought it looked better and drove nicer in general.
The mustang was cheaper though, although the options were not the same.
I have to agree on the tranny though, the Mustang manual felt better.

The new 5.0L 6 speed auto is the new hot combo. There is a ton of Cobra and GT500 owners jumping ship to get a 5.0L auto w/ Ford Racing Supercharger kit or similar and running easy easy 10's as there is now guaranteed formulas for specific ET's none of which require the owner to even remove the valve covers or transmission.

These are the sort of owners that just want to run easy and consistent ET's and are not all hung up on looks. In fact most everybody I meet at the track are way into performance then looks.
