4.11 Richmond Gears - FAILED!
so around 9 months later... BAM!!! and my camaro had to park on the side of the road and wait for a tow...
reason: 4.11 Richmond gears failed ... install was done by JRE... my car has never seen the track... i dont drive her hard/aggressive and I have never launched her above 2.5 rpm... i know they are a reputed company... but wtf???!!!! will be going back to stock (since i luckily had the 4.11 in a different housing)... but damn this sucks!!!! cant send the gears back halfway across the world (shipping alone would cost more than new gears!) .... yes.... we pay to play :(

Shoot, that's a shame. :( On the lighter side, it looks like you'll have to update your sig now.

This is the first set of 4.11's that I have heard of failing. I've heard about several sets of their 4.10's, but never 4.11's. Hmmm, very sorry to hear that. Have you thought about LPE 3.91's??? Just a thought....

im actually on lingenfelter's website right now... if i go for another set of gears, then once again ill have to have them installed in a new housing and then shipped to me... so im looking at $3,700... plus shipping to Bahrain... so around $4,300 ... close to supercharger's price range :(

I still think they are a poor product even after all the supposed revamps to the product. It just bought them another few months of good sales. I think this will seal the deal for camaro owners to steer clear of richmond!

Mine were the first set installed in a 2010 Camaro in February 2010. Coincidentally, the first set to fail after 1000 miles on an otherwise stock SS. Richmond did right by me with a little persistence and the shop installed my oem gears free of charge. I was out the initial install so that 1000 miles cost me about $500.
I am contemplating LPE 3.91 gears some day. Saving up for a cam now so gears will be put off a while. Sucks this keeps happening but launching this big ass is tough on parts... I understand "pay to play" but with so many failures... As far as the number of 4.11s to fail. I don't think this is the first but there have been a lot more 4.10 failures. I have never heard of any stock 3.45 failures. Spider gears, yes but not ring/pinion. Mine: |

Just think of all the gears that have failed from people that don't go on this board. I've personally seen 3 Richmond sets fail.Luckilly we didn't install any of them and refuse to use Richmond for 5th gens. They work fine on the 4th gens though.
Sucks to be the testers for parts. The AAM gears are proven in 5th gens. Good to have them micro polished too. |

Since the 35 spline Strange S-trac posi has a lifetime warranty, combined with our lifetime warranty you would be covered on the entire kit, definitely something to think about. The Richmond gear problems should be coming to an end soon. According to the Motive gear reps that were at our shop last week, Motive gear bought Richmond and will be closing the Richmond plant and moving it's manufacturing to the Motive manufacturing plant. We've installed 100's of gears over the last 20+ years and Motive has a much better track record then Richmond in my opinion. Less gear noise for sure. The Motive reps said the Richmond name will still be on the box just as it has been but the gears will be made by Motive. Thanks Chris |

Geez, let the guy mourn his lost gears before trying to sell him a $5k mod + shipping to Bahrain.
