Nice, Orange Krate! Sounds like you had an awesome time. Enjoy CamaroFest & send my best regards to Becky! Maybe I'll be there next year if I can get the time off and still keep my job. ???

ORANGE KRATE'S CAMFEST II TRAVELS
To all the followers of Orange Krate...thank you for being patient with me as I sort through my various photos and try and connect the dots from what was a somewhat fractured trip. Our original plans got harpooned but actually turned out way better than we could have ever planned! We had several things literally hit all at once. I was suppose to leave solo for Camfest II on Thursday night and head to my buddy's house in Peoria, Az.
About a week or so before the Fest I received a very important invitation to a dedication of a statue erected that honors a former boss of mine who was a pillar in the community and county. He was one of the pioneers in modern ambulance service in California. I worked for them as a field supervisor for many years and his wife personally invited me to attend. Not only could I not miss this, it was an opportunity to see many folks from my early days. The dedication was standing room only and well worth attending as the family who owned the service still remain very good friends and are very special to me and my family. While waiting for the Friday 2:00 PM dedication, our phone, internet, and TV service crash. The technicians showed up at 9 AM and were at the house all day. I had to excuse myself to head to the dedication while they worked on until 6:30 PM. Meanwhile, Erica, got off work and it was our 24th anniversary this same weekend. At last minute she was able to adjust her teaching schedule at the college and instead head to Chandler with me!!! YIPPEEE!!! It was to be just the three of us... Jim, Erica and Orange Krate! We left Simi Valley around 7:00 PM and were in our hotel room at 2:00 AM. That was with taking a 45 minute dinner in Blythe! Orange Krate flies that is all I can say. Below is a photo of the bronze statue of Mr. Donald Pruner and his wife Jackie standing next to it. A story of the dedication can be found at this link: http://m.vcstar.com/news/2011/apr/15...oneer-honored/ |

GOOD MORNING CHANDLER! GOOD MORNING CAMFEST II!
The host hotel and overflow were packed and since it was our anniversary I decided to find something close but quiet. I didn't want to burden my buddy and his wife at their house which was across the Phoenix Valley, so we reserved a hotel about 5 miles from Firebird Raceway. It was a newer Holiday Inn and it was one of the nicest ones I have seen in my travels across country. Since we arrived at 2 AM we opted to sleep in until 8:30.
First stop... WHATABURGER. We use to have these where I lived growing up and they folded! I am addicted to their chocolate shakes. Orange Krate seemed to blend right in and he likes it too. Erica took time out to play a round of "Angry Birds". DOH! |

ARRIVAL AT CAMFEST II
It seemed like an eternity before we actually got to the gate and in. Since it was Saturday late morning (and hot) I think quite a few people had hit the road or were off cooling their jets somewhere. But there were still ALOT of cars and people. I had set two objectives for attending...
1. Meet BECKY, and 2. Try and get SIGNATURES from the fantastic team that was responsible for designing Orange Krate! I also wanted to meet many people from the SoCal Family that I had not personally met yet. I was able to see a few of you and chat but not nearly enough! I was wearing my very obvious "ORANGE KRATE" T-shirt and Becky spotted me fairly quickly. After chatting a bit we went separate ways. Becky is the real deal in person. It then donned on me... I want Becky to sign Orange Krate! The mighty SHARPIE was extended to her and she was the first one to officially sign my car at Camfest. THANK YOU BECKY!!! My only regret is the ink wasn't green! Objective 1 MET... on to Objective 2!
It goes without saying that the 5th Generation Camaro is a true engineering feat. It has the appeal, the horsepower, and the great people to back it all up. When I saw the opportunity extended to have the design team sign Orange Krate there was no hesitation...just had to do it. I would have waited in line all day to have the team sign our car. It was very nice meeting them prior to the signing. Unfortunately I didn't have my pro camera out because I was driving. Erica used her camera though and she did get some good shots. So you can follow the action via the photos below. If you look close you can see PERMAGRIN smeared all over my face while waiting in line and meeting Cheryl Pilcher.
DESIGN TEAM THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . |

Afternoon Drags...
Erica and I had plans to meet our friends, Mike and Juana for dinner. We opted to head over to the casino and rendezvous there. They were coming from the other side of Phoenix so we had some time to watch a few drag races. It just doesn't get any better when the whole line up is Camaros! I have no idea who all of these folks are in their nice rides but you may be able to spot some friends! If anyone sees a photo they want please PM me and I will send you the full size version via email.

Good Friends Visited at Chandler!
How many of us are fortunate enough to have friends for 50 years? I am fortunate to have grown up in a small town (then) and have stayed in contact with several folks that I knew from my earliest elementary school years.
The CamFest II location put us in proximity to our dear friends Mike and Juana from Peoria, AZ. I have known Mike since approximately 1962 or thereabouts. He and my younger brother went from kindergarten all the way through high school together. Mike's Dad, Chet, recently passed away and it was a real loss to many who knew Chet. Mike was very close to his Dad just as I was to mine. Saturday evening Erica and I had a chance to meet Mike and Juana and go to dinner and catch up on things. It was a great evening and before we knew it... it was midnight. It was so good to see our friends again and they really enjoyed a ride in Orange Krate. Mike remembers my first Camaro very clearly because he was the one who sold me the second engine to go in it. That engine was one screaming 396! It was originally built for a 1932 Deuce Coupe but didn't quite make it into that car. Thanks goodness for good friends and good family! They make life so worthwhile. PS - Mike was seriously considering the purchase of a Ford GT40! Come on Mike... buy a Camaro ZL1!!! Forget the Ford! PICTURE BELOW: Jim - Mike - Juana standing in front of Orange Krate Jim showing might some of the finer points under the hood. (They are all fine points!!!) |

Hey it was nice seeing you at the fest. To bad we couldn't hang out longer to chit chat but you know how crazy it was at the fest. Glad you were able to make it.
