winter question

i know its early to be talking snowtire changeover...but...i want to think ahead a little...

my ideas are as follows:

- keep my stock rims and just buy snows for em

- buy new rims and mount the pirellis on them, then buy snow tires for the stock rims

- buy the heritage rims and snows, keeping the current summer setup

- any other ideas?

ive been looking at some nice new wheels and yeah it would be sweet to replace the stock rims for a set of chromes for the summer and mount my pirellis on em...then buy a set of snows for the stock rims...but i guess i have to think realistically here and do whats best for my pocket

any advice is appreciated

I got new rims that I will put some all seasons on for 'winter'. If you are in north you probably want actual winter tires though. I dont want to have to swap tires on rims twice a year so the 2nd set of rims dedicated to winter suits me fine.

Separate set of rims with Winter tires is the way to go if you can.

I priced wheels and snows for my 1SS because I have the $500.00 polished wheels. The conclusion that I reached was that it was better to use the money on a winter beater instead. I drove my last three Camaros through the winter and I know that the winter beats the snots out of them. I bought a 2001 Buick Century instead of the wheels and tires with no regrets.

doesnt make sense to me to put another car on the road....paying insurance...excise and reg fees on 2 cars...i refuse to park my car for the winter...its built to withstand it

A 2nd car just for winter just doesnt make sense from a cost stand point. A new set of rims + tires is less than $2k and lasts quite a long time. A new car, that is reliable enough to use regularly, costs more than that and also has registration costs, insurance etc. (same argument as the bike rack vs 2nd car issue)

I'm with you as a fellow MA driver. A second car is out of the question for you. You may also find (I haven't looked into it yet, as I firmly believe what I'm going to say) is that trying to get 20" snow tires is going to be damn expensive, if not damn near impossible. I plan on going with the second set of rims and tires.

Now, the next question is, what happens if there is not TPMS on the new wheels? Is there a way to defeat the dash board light? I don't remember reading anything in the manual about that.

i read someplace that there is not a way to defeat it...but u can clear the DIC by using the menu button...the little tire light will stay on tho....westcoastcamaros has sensors for 66 bucks each...it might just make more sense to buy those when purchasing set number 2

guess that makes more sense financially....i just wanted a little bit more pop from my wheels...midnight silver painted doesnt sparkle like my chromes did on my previous vehicle...but i guess i need to weigh on whats more important...money(winner) or pop
