Best HDR shot!

From the week I picked her up, no mods yet. And the other was shot HDR just to get the lights to come out right.
I also think that HDR is over-used and can take away from the picture.

And the third picture is what I took at night. Night shots IMO are the best for showing the real color of the car, no reflections, using a pure white LED light, no sunlight, etc.

I think HDR photography is great when done correctly. I'm not a fan of the super abstract over done shots... Here are a few of mine.

I used to use it a lot until I got to understand my camera a little better..

It's good for amateurs to use until they really know how to fully use all of the camera functions.

I'm not a fan of the over-edited look I often see in HDR shots. I attempted it this summer with my point-and-shoot, and below is the result (Edited with Adobe Photoshop CS6). Now I actually own an DSLR capable of taking proper HDR shots so I'll be doing a lot of that this summer!

Don't take this the wrong way, but what did you do to that pic? It looks like you just changed contrast and maybe the exposure.

Also, your camera won't 'take' an HDR shot itself, the HDR is the editing afterwards. Get to know your DSLR a bit, you'll get better results out of just straight camera than you will with hdr.

For that one, I used the HDR tool in photoshop using the 3 images I took at diffident exposures. The only thing it really brought out was the reflections on the door and windows. Apart from that, the only differences I saw were better contrast on the rocks, tires, and grill, which is what I wanted. I could have had a glassy looking picture if I cranked up some of the settings, but I didnt like the way that looked.

Currently I'm using a Sony NEX-5R, which has an HDR function built in (I.E. It takes three pictures at different exposures and combines them, just like photoshop). I'm aware of the extended editing that brings out the artistic look, but the main purpose I would use HDR in one of my pictures is for better contrast, however I prefer custom settings in most cases. Below is an example of one of my recent HDR pictures with minimal editing, picture was handheld with no tripod.

This isn't really true. Most of the general public doesn't really understand what HDR is or when it should be used. A well done high dynamic range photograph will not have the "HDR look" that many cameras and editing programs apply as an afterthought. HDR has really taken a strange turn.

An illustration of sorts... this is the +/-0 EV from the 3 exposure HDR, or what would typically be the straight from the camera, unedited shot most people would take.
