It literally pops off. Start in the upper right corner and using just your fingers, you can pull it out. However, it is connect to a the black piece at the bottom by 3 more push thingies. It is a two person job to get it off those. One person needs to use a pair of pliers and squeeze the middle white one and push one of the end ones while the other person does the same to the opposite end ones. It might also help to use pliers on those as well. That is what I did.

It wasn't the easiest thing to get off.... in fact, I gave up and as I was trying to put the top back on the bottom broke loose then I was able to get to those 3 push "thingies".

Anyone want to buy a silver surround???? LOL
