I posted it on the local clubs facebook page and I was told they are done for. Waiting for Jay from MACE to answer back now. I asked him if the popping occurring was because the cats were hot enough to ignite the excess fuel from running rich and then making it think there was knocking, pulling timing. Maybe when the popping isn't happening the cats are cooled off enough not to ignite the small amount of fuel in there.
I think women are easier to troubleshoot than cars now. |

I agree- the cats are just about to collapse!
Don't put them back on the car! When they do collapse it will totally block the exhaust and the back pressure can be sufficient to hold open the exhaust valves resulting in burnt pistons. |

Take a chisel to the innards, clear it all out, and put them back on. unless you have to pass emissions.

Gutting them now, just taking a while. Think this is what caused my car to run like crap after the misfires? Car ran great for a few days after the install, then went to crap.

Aftermarket from American Racing Headers. Either they couldn't handle boost or they got messed up from a misfire and are getting worse.

I think the cats are your issue....that does not look like the insides of any other cats I've seen before.
What are the "fins" on the insides of those cats made from? They look pretty weak to me. Not sure if you can, but I'd take a look at BBK or SOLO cats and see if you can't weld them in place of your ARH cats. I think you may have dodged a bit bullet on this one. Hopefully no other damage has occurred.

Got done gutting them and reinstalled everything. Started the car up and its a little louder, but not much. Can't tell too much of a difference. Will have to test drive it tomorrow to see how the car behaves, then during the week see if it acts up again.

Thats exactly what I did.I didnt want to risk any back pressure from my cats.I had mine on my car for a few weeks then pulled them off.I already noticed they were starting to go bad.I always wondered about the popping myself.I get it when I first start up my car in the morning.

I'm catless too! Initial tune on my IPF install destroyed both Solo hiflo's.
I think the LLT is particularly hard on the hiflo cats- I know several LFX/IPF folks that are running Solo's without issue. You can probably run a S/C LLT with hiflo's, but the tune needs to be perfect. The stock cats also seem to be able to tolerate supercharged environment on either engine. |

Well, took it for a test drive this morning, I can tell some back pressure is missing down low but other than that the car is not that different, just a hair louder and higher pitch. I can't tell if the car is hesitating right now, seems like every little noise is causing me to go "WTF is wrong now?".
I'm going to remove my boost gauge and the car will be back to the same way it was when I first installed the kit just minus the cats. Will keep driving it and see how it acts. Since I gutted my cats, can I use one of my rear bungholes (giggity) for a wideband sensor and just cap off the connector? |
