Boston Acoustics getting out of car audio
Looks like they're moving on. I got the base system and upgraded on my own so I'm not concerned but thought I'd pass this on. Still haven't heard one of the BA systems either...

April... that is soon... Well other Chevy cars come with Bose and Pioneer speakers while Buick comes with Harman Kardon systems, so I am sure one of them will jump on the wagon and replace the BA system.
As long as you do not do Sony (aka Ford) systems! |

Good riddance!
I can't imagine the oem car audio systems were doing anything good for their brand image.

Too bad they didn't get out of the car audio business in 2008. Just sayin...

BA had some really good stuff, this is sad news. Their lowest end speakers in their consumer line are over twice as good as what is shipped in the Camaro audio package. I have no idea why they would have ever put their name on this OEM package, it is just trash.

I'd take that Sony over anything you've mentioned besides the pioneer.

It's kinda sad. Their real aftermarket car audio stuff has always been great...some of it in the past was legendary.
I'm not really impressed with the OEM system in my 2SS...it's "ok"...better than most other OEM systems my other cars have had...but this is my first really nice car. It is definitely nicer than the Monsoon was in my 4th gen...not the end of the world though, there are plenty of awesome car audio speaker builders for the aftermarket. You really can't rely on the OEM system in any car to be able to hold a candle to what you can do with aftermarket speakers/amps/processors.

As soon as I get all my engine mods installed, I'm going to upgrade the stereo.
This is the only disappointing aspect of the Camaro. The Boston Acoutics sound system is underwhelming at best. Tinny, underpowered and at its best when listening to talk radio. As someone mentioned, they make good stuff. They just didn't put it in the Camaro. It's too bad.

Back when I was doing audio car competitions, I had all Alpine and Orion equipment ... Some fosgate stuff too. Pioneer was the stuff high school kids put in because they couldn't afford the good stuff. I guess times have changed.

Indeed, times have changed. I remember when I installed Jensen 6x9 coaxials and a "power booster." haha! Of course, they were reproducing the sound from my Craig 8-track player. I marveled at my friends cassette player that could search songs. Amazing!
I know Boston Acoustics makes good stuff. That was why I was so disappointed but if GM speced the system at a certain price point, corners have to be cut. |

BA is getting out of the aftermarket retail business, but is going to remain in the OEM side.
