question for all you mechanics

when i try to start my car in the morning (when its cold out), i can turn the key and hold it for literally about 10 seconds. the dash lights up and the radio comes on but nothing happens with the starter. if i try it again the engine starts up like it normally would. i live in l.a. so obviously its not so cold that there would be any problem starting the car. almost forgot, this only happens in the morning, all other times it starts up without any problems. any ideas on what this could be? thanks

So when you say it only happens in the morning, does that mean that it will start in the afternoon even if you have not driven it yet? Like say you park it at 9:00pm at night, and the next day you start it for the first time at around 3:00pm will it work, or will it just not start at like 7:00 am?

.... maybe the starter is dead... or don't like the cold period

how long are you waiting after you insert the key to start it.

im wondering if there is something with the vehicle anti-theft system not allowing you to start it right away.
