Hanging around 2000 rpm till stopped

Hey guys/Gals,

Slight problem, I cleaned my throttle body on friday evening and took it for a drive yesterday, what is happening is that it idles fine, drives alright till I take the car out of gear in which case it hangs at 2000 rpm until the Speedometer reads 0 than it tanks back down to 850-900 rpm and idles again. I used Throttle Body Cleaner to clean the Butterfly and may have pushed it open a little bit by my hand while wiping it down. Does anyone have any ideas what i can do to bring it back down to regular driving and such.

i thought that after cleaning your throttle body, you're supposed to let it idle for 10-15 minutes to let it relearn?

It looks like you have a cam according to your sig...if so, then the problem probably isn't mechanical, it is in the tune. More than likely your coastdown idle proportional and integral airflow tables aren't set up properly.

Spadz93 - I let it idle for 10-15 minutes and in that time it idled just like normal, I ended up driving it the day after and that when I noticed the hanging RPM,

SNSSTR- I can see where you are coming from, although before I cleaned the throttle body it was running Great, Only reason I cleaned the throttle body is that the when I removed my cold air intake to clean it out I noticed that the butterfly valve was covered in carbon and cleaned it up and have had this problem since, I am going to email ted and see if he knows any work arounds on this problem.

I think you may have covered the intake sensors in cleaner unintentionally. It might clear on its own or you might have to clean the sensor. Do a search and see how others clean the intake sensor without damaging it.

The MAF was pulled prior to cleaning and set aside

Did you clean it on or off the car? If you left it on the car, you may have sprayed the MAP sensor which is right behind and to the left of the throttle body.

I took it off the car to clean it, I did how ever not replace the throttle body o-ring, that should be here today for replacing, I will also try to get the map sensor out to try and give it a good cleaning.

It sounds like you're very particular so I doubt this is it...did the vacuum hose come off the intake tube or valve cover?

I pulled that hose off and replaced it with a new hose as it was starting to look bad.... so its not that. Im thinking I may have pinched the throttle body o-ring, but it still drives other than holding the 2000 rpm. Mr. Jannetty thought It may be a vacuum leak and I can see where he is thinking it is. but I can also see where I may have to force a relearn on my throttle.

Definitely, maybe just disconnect the battery for 30 minutes or so to let the computer reset?

Throttle body o-rings just don't usually go bad

I was just taking a look anything that could cause a vac leak or something similar and it dawned on me that the Previous Owner installed the Throttle body Spacer....... now get this I found it kinda strange but never thought anything of it that there is a complete LACK of gasket on either side of the spacer...... hmmmmmmm so after work gonna pull the spacer out and see if that helps me at all..... if it does well that'll be problem #2 that I have had to fix on it from him.
