I forgot. My sister got her 86 z28 brand new and it overheated on the first day. Apparently if I remember right the fan wasnt connected. S*** happens. I do feel for you for waiting all that time and boom it dies.

I wonder if any of the wear on the battery cable insulation occurred while the car was on the transport truck or train? I'm sure the car saw a lot more miles bouncing around on that truck and/or train than it did after it was delivered to the dealer.

Just a thought...

Ill join the club. Starter would only be hot when you start the car and would not stay hot for very long, it would not be enough to burn through the wire, also friction between the starter and the cable would not be enough to burn through it either since the car has low mileage.

If this is a design flaw i really hope they do a recall soon, this can cause a serious crash.

Also, any parts replaced under warranty are shipped back to GM. The customer will never see the defective part, much less be given the parts to take home.

I was also wondering why the dealer clocked 17 miles before handing you the keys. Did they have your permission to do so?
Thanks for the heads up on the parts. That's understandable. My husband has already put a call into GM regarding the issue. GM will know about it, really just for future reference.

Regarding the mileage. Here's what went down.... My car was delivered w/ 3 miles on it. Then driven to a bodyshop to have the stripes installed, appx. 4 miles., then back to the dealership, another 4 miles. So now the car had 11 on it. Then they flat bedded it to another bodyshop (the first one tore the stripes). Then I picked it up, now we're 5 days after the delivery, and drove it back to the dealership so that I could finalize everything, about 10 miles. This adds up to 21 miles, and like I said there were about 22-24, can't remember which, when we went to fill it up with gas before I drove her, almost, home.

we need to get 80Zedder and Mole into this thread so they can tell other workers at Oshawa about this... if they know the problem exists, it can be remedied before it gets out of hand... more likely than not, it was just quick work done to get the cars off the line and it wont happen again, but if the same employee does it day in and day out, there might be more problems in the future.

You know, I joined this website because I googled my car and found it in a forum on Camaro5.

Now I have found myself drawn to these forums for the simple purpose that they are, information. Priceless what I have learned already. Thanks for confirming such an incident. And seriously, I can not believe how many people this has happened to. I've never had this happen to me, ever.

Thanks again for being there and providing info.

I thought that was kinda of weird since 98% of GM's cars take side post batteries. A optima battery would be a great replacement battery, they are very good batteries, well before Johnson controls (interstate) bought them out lol just kidding they are still good batteries.
Thank you for your info. I'll keep all this in mind.

quoted for truth

every GM side post battery I have ever owned has had this problem... even the one in our 2002 Firehawk, which doesn't get much use and is charged religiously to make sure that it didn't go bad had this problem... I will buy another GM battery to go in the car so it can be in the factory stock class at car shows, but I now have an Optima red top in the car for regular use.

To put the stripes on. My dealership doesn't have a bodyshop so they subletted out. That's why.:(

I've already realized I don't have enough pictures. I am going to take a million and post them as soon as I can. I'm trying to figure out how to put them in a thread. Do you have to have the pictures on a specific website, like photobucket, to post them?

To everyone wanting pictures. "I'm on it. Just need my baby back". And I absolutely will try and take pictures of the engine. Thinking of going to the dealership this afternoon, surpise them and get some pictures of the work in progress.

Did they give you a shop rental car while you wait to get yours back? Unfortunately I wouldnt be able to afford the downtime as the Camaro will probably be my only means of transportation.
