Last One I Hope

Sorry guys,

I know I've been hammering this forum with seat-oriented threads, but ordering opens up in 6 days and the wife is all over the place with what she wants and doesn't want in the car.

We sat in Recaros last weekend but after seeing the leather, she really wants a 2SS. Doing that however, puts us over budget so I have to forgo the Recaros. I'm trying to convince her that because of the Alcantara inserts, the 1SS and 2SS Recaros are very similar and we should save the $3K+ and stick to a 1SS.

Can someone with a 1SS 1LE with Recaros put up some shots of their interior so I can show my wife how nice it looks

The front Recaro seats are exactly the same regardless of 1SS or 2SS. Only the back seats are changed from cloth to leather when you go for 2SS.

Is that a 1SS or a 2SS? The bolsters look like leather, are they?

The side bolsters are leather.

Seen few threads on wear of the alcentera shift knobs after 10K or less miles not sure how the seats will hold up if they will look beat up or worn in 20k miles.

Alacantra isn't new to being used in automobile interiors.
Many Mfgs have used it over the years.
Like anything else it requires proper care.

1SS doesn't have the heated Recaro seats though right?

It is another material. If you neglect it - expect it to stay looking new without any effort it will look "worn", or "beat down" - but it isn't really. A little TLC can bring it right back to life.

Billy - tell your wife, if it matters, that as nice as the leather looks - the suede/cloth is noticeably more comfortable on the seating surfaces.

I have the Recaros - granted, in a 2SS....and they're simply amazing! This isn't MY car - but it may as well be the same interior:

There is no difference between the 1ss and 2ss recaros. Recaros are recaros, they are all the same.

Are you willing to mod the car.

The 1ss trim work (cloth) for the door and dash inserts isn't as nice as the 2ss. This can be changed.

The one thing that would be very difficult to replicate from 2ss to 1ss is the HUD. It is far from easy. If you could live without HUD I would go 1ss with recaros and plan to change the door and dash trim and have the rear seat re-upholstered to match the recaros. It would look sick! I looked at the 1ss's and wouldn't be able to cope with the cloth trim coming from a 2ss. But I also was struggling paying for 2ss and recaros when a big selling point of 2ss is the leather which you are replacing with recaros.

If you do the math the price difference for the 2ss is a decent value and can't be duplicated for less.

You shouldn't let your wife influence this so much. Get what you want and ask for forgiveness later. To be honest my wife didn't see my 1le until it was delivered to my place, and she didn't see the zl1 until after we signed the paper work....we walked out of the dealership, she saw it and said "hmmm, red, I like it". I didn't even realize I had never told her what car I was buying.

100% agree! I went from 2ss leather to the zl1 suede and it's a big difference. I imagine the suede is similiar from zl1 to recaro.

I sat in the recaros. Nice seats! But a bit tight for me, I like to lean a bit.

I was in the same situation as you when ordering my 1LE. I ended up going with a 2SS without recaros. I do like the recaros, but i think getting in and out of it a lot will be a pain. Im not a big guy either (5'7" 155lbs) but they seem they are a little tight when if your not buying the car to race it multiple times a year. I think the stock 2SS seats are nice and hold you in when taking a turn still.

also, the goodies in the 2ss are really cool, I think its worth the extra $$$. The HUD alone is really a treat.

I bought the 1LE with Recaros, I love them. Alcantara is used on all high end Lambos, Porsche... I saw no value to the 2SS with the Recaros, care less if the rear seats were leather and didn't care about the light package. I ordered more oriented toward taking it to the track, Recaros make it easy to add harness. I wish they weren't powered, I'd rather save the weight and the $$, no one else drives the car and I'll never change the seat position any way.
