looking at a new , year old car
hello. question. i am looking at a new 2013 2 LT vert. car has 60 miles on it, however, was built a year ago, sept. 2012. are they any issues with the fluids in the car? oil, tranny, brake, radiator, seals, etc? that would be for sitting for a year? if i bought, should dealer change any or all of those? would the battery be ok, given again, its been in the car for a year? the rebates are good on 2013, but was taken aback when i saw the build date. i asked the dealer, and he said some sports cars dont sell immediately. he said he had a vette for 2 yrs. this car i am looking at is all black, with 19 inch wheels, polished, navigation, no RS, and again is new. i test drove and drove nice.
thanks for your input! |

I think most mechanics recommend changing oil yearly as a minimum so you might ask them to change it. You want them to use the same type of oil (petroleum, synthetic, or blend) as it came with from factory so engine will break-in properly. I'm not sure you have to worry about the other fluids or battery.

Full synthetic oil is not "too slippery" to help break in an engine. Myth.

does the car have full synthetic in it from the factory? if it does, then thats what i should ask them to put in it?

LFX engine uses DEXOS oil. Have the dealer do an oil change using it. GM recommends oil changes at 6mo or 7500 mi.

'13 V6 takes a blend. My car is at 10k miles and I've changed it twice.
BTW- I passed on an old stock '13 that was a summer '12 build. The reason. My previous vehicle was a year old "new" one. After owning it a year, lot rot issues started to surface. As in frame rust, and a battery that would discharge low after sitting a few days. Even though I got a screaming deal on it- it turned out to be no deal. |
