Who has a stall?

hey guys, i just put a cam and heads in my car, the block is out right now, i figured that it would be easy just to throw in a new torque converter.

my questions are what should i get for my set up? (whipple, cam, heads, headers)
and who has some that has worked well?

For forced induction applications a torque converter rated at a stall speed of 2800-3200 will work, for n/a car builds 3600 and up depending on size of cam. I have a 3600 with gt-11 cam, milled heads for better compression full exhaust, gears, lighter wheels and drag tires and other suspension mods times are in sig for this set up

ok around a 3200 is what i was looking at, just wasn't sure what size to get for the power i have. my next move is to get some suspension work done

Does your car even hook now? If you race a 3200 or more. If you are hitting it on the street might want to go 2800-3200. And you need a triple disk.

hell no it doesnt hook.
its a wok in progress, this isnt my daily. i planned to do suspension work after the cam and heads with some slicks. i just haven't gotten there yet.

i will make it hook. and the short time that it takes for the suspension parts to get in i can do a roll from a 30 or whatever, it will help me out

I have the night fury cam (havent installed yet) and Lethal racing recommended a 3200 stall, so thats what im getting. They issues getting it from Yank for some reason so we went with Precision Industries vigilante.

Cant speak to the performance or drivability yet as I am waiting to install everything. (N/A btw)

Geez, am I reading that right? You have a auto with 3.91 gears and a Whipple? First, no matter what stall you get it will need to be a triple disk and your going to need your tuner to command lockup at the end of 4th at WOT. Otherwise your going to be shifting into 5th a lot at WOT. Look at it this way. Even if you have a 6800RPM limiter with 28.7" tires your only going to be able to run 121mph in 4th with the stock converter or 128mph in 4th with a triple disk locked up. You seriously might want to think about a 3.45 or 3.70 gear change because with that much power I see a shift to 5th no matter what plus that torque has got to be hard to control.

I would recommend a FTI or Circle D in the 2800 range because of how much low end torque the Whipple is going to give you. Best thing to do is call Circle D and/or FTI and tell them your exact list of mods and what you want the car to do. Those converters are really more made to order depending on set up.

i have a 3.73 now, i need to change that on the footer, i swapped it out with a buddy after i did the whipple. you right it had too much torque on the rear end. now im not big on converters im going to have to read up on this triple disk, is it something that comes the a specific type of stall?

Triple disc converters have 3 clutch discs, can hold the power and stall up to higher engine speeds.

I would call Chris:

https://www.circledspecialties.com/

A stall will let your engine stall up higher before you leave the starting line, which helps your ET. A looser stall will also experience less RPM drop on the shifts, which helps keep an engine in its power band.

Along with what John said, you can safely command full lock up at wide open throttle with a triple disk. This really helps supercharged cars like yours turn out better ET and trap speeds. It also allows you to run faster mph in 4th gear before having to shift to the next. Instead of converter slip which will eat up more power and speed you get no converter slip and it acts like a manual trans giving you less driveline power loss.

Will totally depend on your tune. I would guess with a Whipple, cam, and heads you have to be close to 625RWHP through a auto trans and even with the greatest tune I don't see it lasting forever. Also be sure to use the biggest trans cooler that you can.
