New Tonneau
Just put on my new tonneau tonight, old one was the kind with clips and sharp plastic tabs - used to scratch my rear seat panels. Dealer replaced my 2011 under warranty because it had vinyl peeling and wear at the seams.
I've attached the bungee cord thingies underneath to the posts - is there anything else I need to be careful of?

Just be careful seating the hard plastic parts of the cover. (The corners) That will help keep any scratches to a minimum.

Thanks, pgreen. Got the first coat of Meguiar's vinyl protectant on and it looks good. Old scratches gone - good stuff!

Thanks, Reggie. Will keep an eye out, but I don't think there will be any issues. Looking to keep this car 10 or 15 years - @5k there's hardly any wear showing, so it should fare very well. Depreciated or not, it will always be a classic looker and driver!

I also had my original tonneau cover(the one with the plastic tabs) replaced under warranty due to the delaminating of the materials. The new cover I have has the bungee cord system. comparison, I find the 2nd gen (newer version) harder to put on than the original.Attaching and removing the bungee cords, I find, is a little trickier than the plastic clips..I have not noticed any difference otherwise, but I could envision ,on the original cover, the clips wearing out (not as tight) or breaking eventually. |

Baba, will do. So far so good, new tonneau also seems more substantial in fit - tighter where it sits in the well. Figured out the bungee cords, easier if you "install" the tonneau first, then lift each side to wrap them around each of the posts. New tonneau took Meguiar's Supreme Shine well and looks great!
11CGV, no worries. Agreed - I used to worry about the clip things wearing out too, especially as I plan to keep the car for 10+ years. Not a problem now!

I hook my bungee cords to the hooks on each side (when you close the top, those hooks that that clip in just above windshield. Those post the bungee cords can just slip off and the hooks are much tighter. My 2 cent Michael in Virginia

Let me ask you guys this: are the posts for the bungee cord the same as for the posts for the tonneau with the clips (I thought I had read that they were, but not certain anymore).

Baba, can't tell cause I didn't take pics before. They seem similar, round and about the same size. Maybe they are the same ones.

Here's a photo of the underside of the updated cover. Everything is the same except the clips have been replaced with bungee cords.
