Question Engine Rust

I am about to pick up a 2LT RS that I found on a lot. While looking under the hood I noticed what looked like some rust on the side of the engine. Is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about.

Most likely the cast iron exhaust manifolds, which not be a problem.

If I am remembering correctly, yes, I think it was on the exhaust manifolds. I am just paranoid about spending all this money and not getting a car that is in perfect condition. But if you say that is nothing to worry about, then I will try and put it out of my mind.

Normal, don't sweat it. All cast iron manifolds do it.

stock steel exhaust manifolds on EVERY car in the world rust. its uncoated steel. you dont need to replace them. unless you are swapping for headers.

Exhaust manifold surface rust is not something to worry about. It is normal. It will look like that as long as the car exists. Go look at an unrestored car from 20-30-40 years ago. The exhaust manifold will look the same.

Brake rotors will have surface rust anytime they are exposed to moisture, whether from rain or ambient humidity. It goes away the first time you use the brakes after seeing it.

Enjoy that bad boy!

Your rotors will look rusty every time you wash it too.

I don't know if anyone else has mentoned it yet, but its probably the exhaust manifold. COmpletely normal.

Oh, and by the way, your rotars will rust too when you wash the car. Also normal.

Just in case no one mentioned it.

You're not kidding. I sprayed my wheels off with a hose and I could watch the rust form on the bare rotor like magic. I could SEE it forming.

But if the OP thinks the Camaro rust was a defect, good thing he didn't get a GT500!
