Well, I sure don't have the driving skill/experience that Evan Smith has, but I drove my bone-stock 2007 GT500 on the factory Goodyears to a 12.56 @ 114mph several years ago. Never did get a chance to get a baseline on the 2010 at the same track.

It was evan smith. He ran 11.9 @ 120 bone stock in a '10 gt500. With some ET's he went faster, I believe an 11.6, but I can't remember for sure.

yea, but if you use practically any other tire than the crappy good years you run would have been waaaaaaay better.

Sadly they probably won't. That's corvette territory right there. Doubt GM will make a camaro that runs faster than a vette....
Do you think they are going to make a C7 soon so they could make a Z-28 accordingly. the C6's did come out in 05, so I think its time for refurbishment.

I read the reviews on this car from C&D, R&T, Autoweek, MT, Edmunds and Automobile Mag. They all said basically the same thing. Who's going to pay that kind of money for a Mustang that is only a little faster than the new GT that costs $20K less. The answer of course is only diehard Mustang hardcore fans. Nice car! I mean really! Even if the styling is a little funny to me, they did a great job on it! But, I'm not forking out that kind of cash for one.

I wonder if they will be saying the same kind of things about the Z28 when it finally arrives? Only crazy camaro fans will be paying that kind of cash for that car? I guess the bottom line is, I don't give a rat's *ss! I will want one!

I suppose to a point they are correct, you can mod your GT, Void your factory coverage and have a faster car for less money.

When they say $20k more they must be using a base GT vs a Loaded 500? When I priced out a GT I came up with about $37k. When I priced out a GT500 I came up with $49k. These cars still had similar options, the Shelby still has more content. So for $12k more, I get a supercharger, better trans, clutch, drive shaft, seats, trim and the body mods. Seems like a fair price considering a supercharger alone is what $6 - $7k.

I'm with you I would still buy the GT500/Z28.

A Camaro cannot compete with a Corvette. That's like saying a sledgehammer can compete with a finely crafted sword.

The Camaro can be faster in the quarter-mile and STILL not compete with the Corvette, which will wipe it out in every other way, due to it's far superior chassis.

The GT500 has owned its own market for over 4yrs now and its time for GM to step up to the plate and play some good ol fashioned competition.
I agree with this. GM *should* make a sledgehammer (Z28) that competes with Ford's sledgehammer (GT500). GM doesn't *need* to, though, since the GT500 costs more than a Corvette, which is a far superior car.

Now that I think about it more, I think I'd rather have the Z28 be a stripped down, "hardcore" Camaro, that totally wipes out the new Mustang 5.0 in performance/value, unlike the current SS, which is just neck and neck.

Vikings proved you didn't need finely crafted weapons to dominate, all you needed was brute force.

Suspension + more power = compete directly with the vette.

Here in Canada a base 2010 Corvette ($67,500) costs $6000 more than loaded 2010 GT500 ($61,500), a base GS starts at $75,000 and a 2010 Z06 starts at just under $100,000. A friend of mine paid the same for his loaded 2010 automatic SS as I paid for my 2010 GT500 (no NAV).

The 2011 GT500 with the SVT pkg lapped VIR with a time sitting just ahead of the GS an a few 10ths behind the Z06. Not to bad.

My version of a Z28 would be lighter, leaner and sporting an LS7. That would be awesome!!

Ya but we all know that the GT500 and the Corvette are both built with different intensions in mind

I got yelled at for making that kind of point in the Z28 forum. Basically, I think GM misses a golden opportunity if they release the Z28 for more than $10k above similarly optioned SS's.

Of course, if they do that, they have to improve the 'vette somehow. Despite what a lot of people state, a popular Camaro does eat into Corvette sales.

The Z28 should, (in my opinion) look to beat a Mustang 5.0 with the Track Pack (sticky tires and big brakes) in price and performance. From most of the tests and prices I've seen, the SS doesn't do that convincingly.

The GT500 is an iron-block, solid rear axle joke compared to the Corvette. No need to compete with it. It's already been beaten down.
