Just a suggestion-FbodFather

Hey FbodFather, What's up?

Names Lionel and I'm one of the biggest fbody fans ever. I was thinking the other day how much we fbody guys and gals love doing burnouts. What do you think of a line lock being one of the options for mainly the performance Camaros?

I don't mean to "speak" for Scott, and I hope he doesn't mind me resonding???

First, welcome Lionel!

As for line-lock being offered on the new Camaro....ummmm....not gonna happen.

I can think of quite a few reasons, but just a few are;

1. Line-lock is used for drag racing. GM, or any manufacturer for that matter, would NOT want to be seen as promoting drag racing for their vehicles, with the fear that people would be out, possibly "street racing" their new Camaro, Challenger, or Mustang. Can you imagine the sh%t that would hit the fan if someone was hurt/killed by someone street racing their new Camaro, which oh by the way comes with line-lock from the factory?

2. Consider all the people returning to their dealers, looking to repair/replace broken parts.

3. Independent rear suspensions are more suited for handling, versus drag racing.

Just a couple of reasons why I don't see line-lock available from the factory.

All you'll have to do is turn off the traction system to do traditional burnouts.

That's what the aftermarket is for....SLP linelock. Won't happen from GM. Moose has great points

You can do burnouts, but I wouldn't expect GM to encourage it very much with options that contribute.

yea yea yea, I know. Just thought it would be a good idea to have it as a rare option kinda like the 1le cars. I mean think about this too, a real, all out drag car wouldn't have an a/c. We've had them factory for years and we still take our cars to the track without taking the system out of the car. I remember reading that gm needs to have a better supporting or "after" market for our cars so we can keep it all GM! Oh and people get hurt anyways lmao, shit happens line lock or no line lock dumb people are out there. But if it was an order only item from gm then most likely the ones ordering it would know what they're doing or have some idea. I have a 6spd car and I still have a little trouble doing a brake stand(fear of destroying my rear brakes). I can do it but I'd like to not have to worry about it.

You do that and you will wear down the back rotors and pads prematurely.

But then again, its probably more expensive to replace the tires, so if you have no problem doing that, then hey, go for it.

Lol, just had a really funny thought. Get some Butter/lard or some KY or some other kind of lubricant and smother it all over the rear rotors. Would definitely make for a funny video.

From what I've gathered, we'll be happy to see the offerings, from GM, for upgrading our new Camaro's.

I have kept my hopes low for GMPP, to be very honest. With Ford's offerings of supercharger kits and racing parts and GM's recent tradition of offering office kits and car bras, I have to say that GMPP will have a lot to step up on the Camaro to convince me that they are serious about aftermarket support. Companies like AEM, Magnaflow, HPTuners, and Hahn don't mess around. They tell you that they'll void your warranty, and that you're on your own. GMPP needs to offer these same parts and warranty them the same way Ford does to keep buyers like us buying GM-only parts.

When I got my Cobalt, I was thoroughly disappointed by the aftermarket components offered for the base trims. Hopefully, they take the Camaro a lot more seriously.
