Easiest way to crank without starting the engine?

My camaro hasn't been started for about a month and I was thinking it might be logical to crank the engine a few times for a few seconds each time before starting the engine.

What would be the most practical way of doing this?

.....or should I not bother with this at all?

OK, I wont bother.

But, for future reference in the event that this does need to be done, how would one do it?

Id put a socket on the crankshaft nut.

Some people do this to relax valve springs that have been sitting compressed. Silly for a stock engine. I've taken apart lots of engines that have been sitting, their cylinder walls are dry their bearing always still oiled. Cranking the engine over doesn't lube the cylinders well, the engine must be run for a while.

Your not going to pump any oil through the motor hand cranking it. If its only for a short period don't worry about it. Friend of mine is a retired GM engineer with his own car collection. He says the best thing to do is let them set until your ready to run them for the season, we have winters here. The engine will maintain a thin layer of oil while it sets and will pump up very quickly when started.

Pull the fuel pump fuse and crank away. Not sure why you would want to though...

Push the gas pedal all the way down and turn the key. This tells the computer the engine is flooded and it doesn't supply fuel to the engine.

Sent from my bragging iPhone using an app that encourages it.
