Conventional or Synthetic Oil?

I finally took the leap at got my hands on a new 2011 Red Jewel Tint 2SS. Very nice. My question is this...should I be considering a synthetic oil when it comes to the first oil change or is sticking with conventional oil OK? I'm not a hot rod Camaro owner so I need some assistance with this. Consider me an SS owner who is using a lot of power for transportation and man do I love the power behind this transportation.

I think the ss came with synthetic, but I may be wrong. I have a v6 and changed over to synthetic after around 7000 miles.

Read your owner's manual but the SS does come from the factory with synthetic Mobil One.

I believe mine has Mobil 1 and the weight printed on the fill cap.

Besides I'm a long time user of Mobil 1 full synthetics and have always had great service. Smells a little funny when you change it, but it doesn't sludge up like dino-oils.

Does the 2011 SS and 2012 SS have Mobil 1 on the oil cap? I heard they stopped that and instead recommend dexos 1?

Full syntehtic oil meeting GM Dexos Oil requirements is required for the V-8 engines in the SS models. I don't know if every synthetic oil meets the Dexos requirements but Mobil 1 is approved as meeting Dexos requirements.

Mine came with Mobile1. Switched to Valvoline Syntech on first oil change. Valvoline goes in all my cars.

Mobil 1 extended performance is now dexos certified as well. Check the new bottle labeling.

Always go with the best. Compared to the cost of the engine, oil is really cheap. Castrol Edge is Dexos 1
