Sad... I just bought my daughter a car and put her on the loan to build her credit... we're both on the hit list.

To make matters worse... I worked for those MF'ers for 15 years, and this is the second time I've been burned by them!

You tried this link to check? You had to read thru a bunch of crap to get to it...

Yea, so then what's going to happen is when people who got their info stolen have a bunch of bogus charges made to their accounts their credit scores will go down. On Equifax.

So they will call Equifax to get it corrected and Equifax will be like, "Sorry, but you have to prove you didn't make the charges before we can change your score."

Then the people will be like, "The charges were made because you assholes have shitty security and someone stole my information. From you"

And Equifax will be like, "LOL"

They say I may be affected. Click to enroll. Says I can enroll Wednesday. Sounds like a money making scheme to me.

I don't know if you may want to enroll or not... if you enroll, you may give up your right to sue for damages later if something happens to you.

If you do choose to sign up for the credit monitoring service, you must agree to submit any complaints against Equifax to arbitration. You can't sue on your own behalf, and you can't join a class-action case or benefit from any class-action settlement that Equifax agrees to.

They can't charge you for it... it's supposed to be free if you want to enroll, BTW.

It is providing free service for one year through TrustedID Premier -- whether or not you've been affected by the breach.

I would probably join Credit Karma for free and watch your credit reports there since they pull from Equifax and TransUnion.

Remember, you get a free annual credit report from all 3 credit bureaus... https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action

This is big news and a bummer...But beware of scams related to the hack....

Only a matter of time before scammers pose as Equifax trying to "help" you.

Just one more example of hi-tech crap imploding on itself....The "convenience" of buying and spending money only makes scams easier...

Cash is still king.

Thanks for the tips. The free year is what had me concerned about what happens after that. Do they want a CC to charge you after that year is up? And is cancelling once they have your CC as much as a PITA as Onstar and XM radio?

If they ask for a CC, I wouldn't bother... when I was an employee and we were hacked, and had whatever the product was called back then, it was given gratis without any CC needed. If you wanted something extra, you would then need to provide the CC to access it.

Just reread your question... I'm sure they'll be charging you after that year is up, guaranteed. After I was laid off when they closed our shop, I was offered that product for a fee... I declined it.

..."Not affected"....not signing up for anything....

Had the same thing happen years ago with my medical insurance....They offered free monitoring for three years...didn't enroll in that either....No credit or fraud problems ever occurred....

...Good luck.

News just announced Equifax has known about this breach for six weeks, and kept it quiet...and, prior to the announcement, top Equifax execs sold off a ton of their stock before it took a dive after the announcement....wtf...

Is everybody a crook?

My father who retired from the phone company after 31 years had shares of Lin Energy. He just received notice from the IRS that he owes $3200 because back in 2014 the executives of the company took unsecured debt and rolled it over lowering their assumed debt. NO MONEY WAS EVER DISTRIBUTED TO STOCK HOLDERS. The executives in 2016 gave themselves huge bonuses and filed bankruptcy. So he is on a fixed income and has to pay taxes on money he never got.
