2010 Camaro 2SS/RS Output Shaft broke

Haven't had the car one week yet and last night while sitting at a stop light attempted to take off and when I shifted the car wouldn't go anywhere. Had to push the car off the road and have it towed to dealer with transmission fluid leaking everywhere.

The output shaft broke. The dealership just called and GM is very concerned with the issues with the shafts breaking. They are shipping a new transmission and in the meantime are looking into building a stronger holding device. If the new transmission breaks they will replace it again under warranty. If they come up with a stronger device, it will be replaced under warranty.

I'm concerned that this may happen again, but they are backing up their product 100%. The dealer is also providing me with a loaner.

This is a known issue and GM has been quick on the shipments of new Trannies. RRCAMARO had his in our shop last monday, on friday afternoon the new transmission arrived and this past monday he was out flirting with all the women in his car again he can get away with (without getting caught by mrs RR!)

Yup, there has been quite a few off them breaking.. There is definitely an issue with the Manual 6 speed transmissions out there. Mine broke a little over a week ago and has since been replaced with a new transmission. Hopefully this one will last.. !

This almost makes me want to go to a out of the way road or parking lot and launch a few times. At least that way if it snaps I'll be out of traffic and prepared to push the onstar button

any idea if this is limited to just a particular run of cars? certain vin#'s

I have car #227 ... have done several pretty hard launches ( controlled by me) havent used the launch feature yet with the competitive mode so perhaps this maybe the problem?

I have a little over 2k miles on the car.

I am planning on going to the track tomorrow night, now I am skeptical about it. If this happens as the track would it void the warranty if I called onstar to come get it?

Yes he does...dealer installed too.

Let's see what they say about it...I'd think they will warranty the half shafts.

You might want to mention that "little" addition to your car's engine before making that statement. These shafts could have fractured a run or two before it actually broke. Don't tell me you didn't try the blower out a few times....

I decided to get on it. I was going about 45 MPH in 5th gear and attempted to downshift into 4th, but accidentally shifted into 2nd. Tires made a loud chirp, the RPM's shot up and I wound up shifting hard into 3rd around 6,000 RPM. Since I wasn't expecting that, it was a little scary, but no problems. I'm still not gonna try Launch Control yet! I can't bring myself to lay on her too hard.
