Red face exhaust question am a noob

hello so i dont know much about cars so dont make fun of me :p
just looking for some help
now the question is what are these silver boxed behind the exhaust i've seen people without these and the camaro looks much cleaner
so what do they do and what happens if i remove them and can they be removed ?

Those are the mufflers. Alot of people have removed them (search for muffler-delete). It will make your car louder. I'm thinking of having it done also.

those are the mufflers. And yes, they can be removed and have straight exhaust, or there are many great replacements from vendors on the forums here. Many like the Corsa, Flowmaster, Borla, Solo, etc. Search around, also there are many sound clips to help you decide what you are looking for, from deep, loud rumble to a more mild, quiet sound.

You also have choice in how much of the exhaust you want to replace. Cat-back would be replacing exhaust from the catalytic converts back, or axle back from the rear axle to the exhaust tips.
