Which wheel locks to buy?
Ok....so my car is almost here and I want to have things ready for it as soon as it gets here.
One thing I wanted to do was to put wheel locks on it right away. Anyone know which Gorilla Lock or something similar works the best on the 20" Camaro wheels? Also where the best place to buy them might be?

Auto Zone has a set that is just like the GM locks. 14mmx1.50 is what you need.

Save your money. If they want your wheels they will take your car and remove the wheels with lots of damage at their leisure. This is what they did to my neighbor's Grand National. They also know that you must keep the special sockets in the car or you will be in deep trouble with a flat. Be careful where you park it and it will be fine. If not, use your insurance.

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer goes to New York and gets his wheel locked and then drives home while severely damaging his fender... oh how I love unrealistic cartoons.

This guy I know who use to steal cars and wheels in his younger days said his favorite way to take rims was freon, screwdriver, and a hammer. He clamed it was quicker then to undo the lug nuts. Spray the Freon on the nuts and smack the end of the screwdriver with the hammer.

So, I just told my wife I was going to get a set of locking lug nuts. She told me, if I do, I have to keep the lug nut key on my key chain. Really?!?!?!

If you don't mind having one lug look a little different here is a good way to go:
McGard open end cone seat # 24019. Then go to the Chevrolet dealer and get (4) #5813 015646250 nut covers that will screw on the locking nut. The number is for a painted cover but they are available in Chrome. They will not be able to drive a "socket" onto them nor will the "freon" trick work. |
