High volume oil pump.
I have heard arguments both ways, so lets get a consensus. Having a cam done next week. Most builders have to ld me that our stock oil pump is great and more than adequate for a cam job. A few builders highly recommend a high volume oil pump. Is it worth replacing the oil pump? Just trying to keep the cost a little lower, if its not necessary. Thanks guys

I was curious as well, through my research it seems the general consensus here is to go after market... I think Marylandspeed had a failure on their stock pump??

I've also heard that it's wise to at least upgrade the existing pump or replace with an aftermarket one. There's possible issues with some of the stock pumps that fail.

do your installers know there's a service bulletin out on the stock pump and there's been some issues with it failing?

There won't be consensus on it.
At the very least I'd look at it and check its operation and debur it if you see casting imperfections. But if you're paying for labor that route may be no cheaper than buying one where its already been done. I don't think a high volume pump is necessary and the melling pump comes with a stock pressure spring. If you do sustained high rpm driving like on a road course some ppl have noted low oil pressure because the high volume emptied the pan. So you're just trading one risk for another. |

I reused my stock timing chain and oil pump when I did my cam swap. Whos to say the aftermarket one wont fail too.

I have heard that the stock pumps have had issues. I upgraded to a ported oil pump from TSP. IMO its cheap insurance, your spending all that money whats another 150 bucks. My oil pressure seems to be more responisve with it and the pressure is higher.

A ported pump is no different than a stocker... If you want to move more oil you get a melling hi volume pump... only one we use in our builds

Someone tell my why it is better to move more volume as far as the enginer oil goes? Why is this better?
