Did you ever find a solution? I've been doing research and the factory bulbs are 4300k and put out about 3200 lumens. Changing to a 6000k bulb drops the lumens to about 2800 and you can see the dropoff in light and the color is definitely blue tinted. An 8000k bulb is bluer still and the lumens drop to about 2600. The higher the color temperature, the less illumination.

I'm searching for a good 5000k or 5100k bulb which will be about 3000 lumens and be bright white right on the edge of blue. I'm also trying to find a 55w solution (the factory HID's are 35w). Anybody have a good solution for this?

You wont get brighter than the stock bulb. If you want brighter you need a new projector that uses a decent bulb. D1S is old technology in HID. The higher K you go the less light you will have and the more color you have. Which isnt good for seeing at night. Stock is 4300k. The highest I would ever go is 5000k.

The factory headlights wont last more than 6 months with a 55w setup. It will ruin the chrome in the projector. You can make it have alot more blue without changing the bulb. And it will cost you nothing if you do it yourself.

Here are my instructions for replacing the stock HID's (D1S) with something else.

To make sure there is no static charge left at the bulb I would pull the fuse for each headlight in the fuse box in the engine compartment.

I put 6000k 55w lights in the fogs of my CTS-V and they were whiter and much brighter that the stock 4300k D1S's. I got my kit from DDM Tuning. If I would have used these lights as the regular beams they would have been way to bright for legal use. I cant quite remember, but I think they were around 5000 lumens.
