How soon should I have a tracking #?

I went to a new dealership after getting my deposit back from the first one, and I placed my order last Saturday (3/28)...the dealer(s) told me that the order was placed, but there is no tracking number yet. Does this sound like BS?

By tracking number do you mean GM Workbench order number? If so, that depends on the dealer. Some dealers enter the order into one system and then there is one person (GM or maybe the owner, etc) who actually inputs all the orders into Workbench. So, you may have to wait until that person enters it to get the order number. If they put it in Workbench right there in front of you, you should have an order number on the spot.

Yeah I meant the Workbench #, and they didn't do it in front of me, so I guess I may have to wait a little bit. Thanks.

I think there is some confusion. The Order No# is a six digit alpha-numeric on the Workbench printout the dealer should give you. Up until a certain point in the process, there is no way you can use that number to track the vehicle, the dealer has to do it from within the Workbench program, he should give you updates as they happen though if you ask him to.

Once you get to the actual build stage, and the vehicle gets assigned a VIN you can then track it that way yourself.
