My oldest is 13. He is interested in the later years of the Gen 2 Camaro. Told him I would help him buy the car but he would have to pay for insurance and gas.

Learning to earn and be responsible are principles that will carry on the rest of your life. Be thankful you have a car to drive. I got a hand me down as my first car and paid for every car on my own after. I also never asked my parents to pay for college. I was on my own by age 19 and never looked back.

get a job, save money and maybe they'll help you. As far as any parents who just buy their kids expensive gifts/toys/whatever, IMO, they are doing their child a great disservice. Earn your own way!

I worked for school, took out loans, got a 1976 hand-me-down Plymouth Gran Fury as my first car! And I was VERY grateful for that! Earned my very own first ever bought new car right after I graduated College - it was a Black 1982 Camaro RS V6 5 spd M

Now, I've earned this birthday present that I once again, bought for myself!

Good luck!

I had to work for mine! My parents helped me buy my dream car. A '66 Chevelle. Man was it hot! I had to make all payments for car and insurance, plus keep my grades up just to be allowed to drive. Kids these days just have it way easier. Work for what you get and you will appreciate it as well as take care of it much better. My poor daughter is in for a rude awakening when she gets older.

Kia pos?

That's better than the car I was given. Because I wasn't given anything. I never have been. Mainly because my parents could barely afford a car period. So I allways realized I had to earn what I wanted.

Which, by the way, is why I have no tollerance for theivery and vandalism.

Don't sweat it too hard. I got an 88 Honda Accord hand me down from my sister when I was in High School, and one of my friends got a brand new S2000 (when they were new). I didn't care too much, but I was jealous of other people's nicer cars, especially since my parents made decent money.

After I graduated, my parents helped me (payed for part) buy a 300zx, which wasn't new, but was still a fun sports car ..

Guess what? I crashed it within a few weeks.

I ended up buying myself another not to long after, but the point is that my parents knew that a sports car for a 1st car (and apparently a 2nd for me), is not such a good idea.

With all the teenage driving accidents, your parents probably just want you to be in something safe and sensible while you're still learning to drive. Once you buy your car on your own, you'll appreciate it more, and when you've become a better driver, you'll be more prepared for it.

I learned the hard way, I'm just glad nobody got hurt in the process.

You are entitled to nothing from your parents - even if they may be Mr. and Mrs. Buffet. If you want something, go out and earn it. So what if you get As and Bs or letter in Soccer. Good job, but big deal. This is what you are supposed to do. To be rewarded, do something above and beyond what you are supposed to do. Are we assuming you don't have a job? I am; at least one that will pay for a $35K car and its associated costs. You're being a cry baby.

+1

When I got my first job at 14, a good chunk of my money went to help with the rent. Your parents don't need to be giving you sh!t. how about you flip it around and help your parents and buy them stuff, eh? man up.

I think he just wanted similar experiences.

I was given a 1988 Pontiac Le Mans in high school. A stick shift thankfully. I was a good kid who got my ass beat only when I deserved it, brought home mediocre grades, but surely was a good kid. I had a really good friend who had an awesome Chrysler LeBaron with wood trim interior and a CD player, I was totally jealous and didn't understand why I didn't have a car with a CD player. It was AWESOME! **** your parents for being douches and giving you a 2003 KIA.

This thread really pisses me off!!!!!! to OP i cant believe you expect a car from your parents. i got a 82 cavalier for 250 bucks that i paid for myself when i was sixteen. i didnt expect anything from my parents and neither should you. i hope that you are joking about not getting a camaro. otherwise you are a thoughtless (as far as your parents are concerned) piece of crap that i would not care to know. If you are serious get off this forum nobody wants to hear your poor me rich kid whining!!!!
