I skip 2nd gear almost ALL the time. I go from 1st to 3rd 95% of the time, the other I go to 4th cuz the computer display tells me to.

when going down freeway at highway speed and need to pass slow driver I'll skip from 6th to 4th to get around than back to 6th once I get settled back to speed i'll skip back to 6th. Other than that I shift through all gears. Skipping while downshifting is intoxicating.

I don't think I've ever skipped a gear except when that skip thingy made me do it but that has been tuned out by the dyno.
Downshifting I'll use neutral after 3rd gear to come to a stop but lately I'm going as far as 2nd with rev matching after talking to somebody here. I forget his name. |

For downshifts, "it depends". It's easier to rev-match when you're dropping down only one gear at a time, but if your stop or sudden slowing is hurried enough you may not have either the time or the room. I'll still drop it into 4th while I'm adjusting to the speed of other highway traffic. Once in a great while in my wife's 6M Subie I'll skip 5th and go straight to 6th, but only often enough to know that it happens. Norm |

For me typically around town where the speed limit is 45, I drive mine mostly like a 4-speed. I make it a point to use all gears when upshifting, and normally grab 2nd when stopping.

I forget I have a 6th gear. How many of you have had that problem? Anyway, I mill through all of them up on the freeway. In town, I just go as high as what is easy on the gear. Downshifting I go through all of them to come to a stop, and in passing I drop into 3rd and punch it.

I've always felt that making a "U" motion with the shifter was clunkier than making two separate mostly straight-line motions. A 4-2 downshift entering a side road is maybe the easiest "exception".
Then again, that might be a hold-over from learning to drive on a 6-cylinder car with "three on the tree" and a non-synchronized 1st. There weren't any reasonable gear "skips" in that car. Norm |
