The handling is night and day different. I know people say it is a package no different than a 2SS vs a 1SS, and they are right. But the 1LE package transforms the cars performance, and the other gives you some bells and whistles. Night and day.....seriously!

OP, 2012 has FE4 suspension, so the handling difference may not be very dramatic. ZL1 would be a real upgrade for an SS owner. 1LE is still an SS, it does handle better but it's also slower than SS in straight line. 1LE is a much better track car, but SS is a better drag racer and daily driver. If you spend the same amount of cash on your SS, it'd be a monster with 1LE suspension and a lot more HP.

The 1LE package is the best value upgrade you can make from the factory. I love the handling, as it inspires so much confidence on the track. If you love corners, you'll love a 1LE.

What makes the S/S faster in a straight line than the 1le? I'd have thought the 3.91 rear gear in the 1le would have given it the edge in the 1/4 mile....

The gearing change on the 1le requires a shift to 4th gear in the 1/4 mile. Also, the tires and track optimized suspension are not optimal for 1/4 mile launches. That said, if your goal is to be a maybe a couple 10ths faster in the 1/4 mile then get a standard SS, If you want to go faster around the track then go 1LE.

If you like the wheels and tires, chin spoiler, wrapped hood, tighter suspension components, red calipers, 3.91 rear and track optimized gear ratios and suede steering wheel and shift knob, get the 1le.

Because this car shows Europe and other countries that we can make even a muscle car go well around the corners. I've had several people from the UK tell me the car is sick and they'd love to have one. Also the fact that it's just as great for daily driving as well as the serious track day.

+1, raptor. By the way, OP is not buying the SS for the first time. If he was, I'd have also recommended 1LE. For first time buyers, $3500 1LE package is a steal. But for OP it'll cost around $15K (with depreciation factored in unless his '12 has very low mileage). Now for $15K he could add the 1LE suspension and a super overpriced HPE550 pacakge with warranty to his '12 SS and keep some change in his pocket.

Let's put ourselves in his shoes. If Chevy releases 2LE tomorrow for an additional $3500 (from the factory with new cars) that handles better with no HP/TQ boost, should we trade/sell our 1LE and lose another 14-15K in the process?
