when will they start to discount the camaro?

Since there are over 1700 New camaros out there it seems like a matter of time before they start to discount these cars. Over the last year i have made numerous dealer contacts with back then no one even returning my calls well that was then and now the calls keep coming. Now with that said the discounts i have been made are not that good or not good enough to spend 50-70 grand in these times. GM has not discounted anything and even upped the finance rates even higher will continue to wait this out and use the deals at some of the bigger dealers here in Florida. Whats your thoughts?

I think demand will exceed supply on Camaros from now until it’s discontinued. If you wait for rebates and dealer discounts, you probably won’t get a new Camaro.

Supply is still way down. There are lots of constraints on especially of the highly desirable trims like 1LEs, ZL1s, chips for heated seats, backup sensors, Recaro seats, M6 transmissions, etc. GM is allocating a lot of their supply toward their more profitable trucks and Corvettes.

That said, you may see a small discount on a basic V6 Camaros if a dealer has a few on the lot but I would not expect any discounts any time soon on SS, 1LE, or ZL1s. In fact, a lot of dealers are still selling these trims over MSRP and getting it.

Depending on how bad the recession gets we may see enough drop in demand but I just don’t think we will ever see high volumes of Camaros again where dealers will need to discount them to get them off the lots. If you can find what you want at MSRP I would snag it.

I disagree. The car market bubble is bursting. I’m not gonna bore you with statistics and percentages of how many people are behind/upside down on their car note. People’s fears of recession are on the climb. All these camaros that are sitting in lots waiting for chips or other parts to be completed will eventually be shipped to dealerships, and will sit on lots due to people backing out of wanting the camaro or simply got tired of waiting and moved on to buy another vehicle.

Patience is a virtue and the deals will come.

Maybe. Those that wait may still end up without a Camaro. GM could pull the plug on it at any time. They have not said when they will end production of Camaros, and since they build Cadillacs on the same line, they can keep the Plant open without Camaros.

all I know is that when I contemplated giving up on my zl1 order and just buying from existing inventory, I was suddenly hounded by dealerships wanting my business...however, despite seemingly begging me to come see the car, they all wanted additional markup over msrp. I never followed up beyond that week to see if those cars did sell, but it seemed like the desperation was on their end, not mine.

I’m in agreement with this. Starting to see some softening in car prices already…will likely accelerate big time in the next few months as the economy slows down.

I would agree to an extent but these are 50k non essential pleasure cars that are heavily constrained new and owned by people that aren't affected by gyrations in the economy. The push to watt is real they don't make alot of these and they'll be gone completely in one year IMO.

Normally I would agree but I think the difference this time around specifically for the Camaro is that they are not going to build a bunch of SS, 1LE and ZL1s that will just be sitting on dealer lots such that need to be discounted to move them. Also factor in the price increases for 2023, $1,800 on SS and $3,700 on ZL1s, which will bolster the used Camaro values a bit.

As for getting tired of waiting and moving on to another vehicle, I agree but what would you get that compares? Mustang Mach 1 way overpriced, Dodge Scat Packs and Hellcats are commanding top dollar and they are big and heavy. The Camaro at MSRP still represents a great value. If you leave the segment and go Nissan Z, they still can't build them and they will all be marked up for a while. The Supra is a BMW and is $58k+. You can go down market and get a lightweight car like a Miata or GR86, but they are tough to get right now and selling over MSRP, especially with a manual transmission.

Agreed. We just sold my wife's Audi SQ5. Back in May, I did the instant offer thing at KBB and they were all offering us 38k+, with private party at 43k. Two weeks ago, when our Tesla finally arrived, we put the sq5 up for sale again and I re-did the kbb thing. This time, they were all in the 33-34k range. We had lost $4000 value in 2 months. We ended up selling private party (with only one serious buyer) for 38k.
