Methanol Tank
AIS Camaro specific trunk mounted methanol tank. I mounted the Alky Control pump to the tank, and had a custom line fabricated to connect the pump to the tank. I'll post more pics as the install gets under way in the next few weeks.

Hurst Shifter Ball
Swapped the factory shift knob out for a "Classic Hurst" shifter ball. Still using the factory shifter, but I do have a "modified" factory shifter sitting on the workbench, just waiting to be installed.

Catch Can modification...
I, probably like most every other gear head, am always curious about how much stuff my catch can is "catching". The only problem is, mine is a Mike Norris catch can, and the only way to see what's inside is to a) unscrew the top, or b) drain the can into a suitable container. I could do either one, but I elected to do something else instead.....
I forgot to get a picture of the can before I started, so I got one from the web.... Supplies needed: 2 each - 1/8" NPT right angle fittings, purchased from a local hydraulic hose manufacturer a length (12") of some semi-rigid 1/4" nylon tubing. First Step: Mount catch can in desired location. Second Step: determine where you want your sight tube to be on the catch can, (I installed mine in-line with my hose fittings), and mark the catch can. Third Step: Remove catch can and get ready for surgery. Fourth Step: Mount catch can in a suitable holding fixture, (I used a drill vise), placing a shop rag around the jaws of the vise so that it wouldn't mar the surface of the can. Fifth Step: I used a 7/32" drill bit to make the initial holes, then switched out to a step bit. I wasn't sure what size pilot hole I needed for the 1/8"-27 Pipe tap (11/32" btw), so I stepped the hole up gradually, checking the fit of the pipe tap after each step change, until I hit the right size, which for me, was 5/16". Sixth Step: Get the 1/8"-27 Pipe tap, and keeping it square to the hole, slowly proceed to tap the holes you just made. Remember, when tapping, turn the tap in the cutting direction 1/2 a turn, then turn it back 1/4 turn to break the cut material off. Run the pipe tap approximately half-way through, then remove. You can check the fitment of your fittings, they should go in a couple of threads and then get snug, as a pipe tap is tapered. If this is the case, you are ready to move on; if the fittings won't engage the threads, you need to tap some more. Continue until you achieve a fitment to your satisfaction. Seventh Step: wrap fittings with either Teflon tape, or some pipe joint compound, and screw* in to can. *Depending on where your mounting bracket is on your can, you might have to put in one fitting, install the mounting bracket, then install the remaining fitting (as was my case).* Eighth Step: Remove the top and/or bottom of the catch can, to clean out all metal shavings from the drilling and tapping operations. Once cleaned to your satisfaction, re-assemble catch can. Ninth Step: Measure and cut semi-rigid nylon tube, then install into fittings. Tenth Step: Admire your work for a few minutes....then install back on car, re-attach hoses, knowing that the guessing game is forever over... |

Meth Kit Install begins...
Well, I started on the meth injection system today. So far, all I have done is getting the tank installed and running the lines and wiring in the trunk.
Hope to get the rest of the electronics installed tomorrow. |
