Alberta Tint Laws

Just a heads up in case anyone is thinking of doing this.

Vehicle Equipment Regs:
69(1) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a windshield or in a left or right side window of a motor vehicle that is beside or forward of the driver with a transparent, translucent or opaque material.

***

In other words ZERO tint on the windshield or the side windows of the front seats ....

I doubt it is high on the priority list but if you get stopped for anything else, this will probably get tacked on to the list.

they have blitzes every now and then with "what shall we pick on the motorist with today?" Tinted windows is sometimes the topic du Jour. I got pulled on Baseline road a couple of years ago when they were stopping people purely for having window tint. I opted for the $50 ticket rather then have some dude remove it at the side of the road. It won't stop me having tint on the windows of my new one.

tint

$50 does not sound too bad I wonder how much in BC. Does Alberta have to have a front plate?

Tint the back window very dark (the regs permit this). The sides are already tinted by the manufacturer, which is also allowed under the Alberta Regs. By tinting the back, the interior of the vehicle becomes much darker and the sides will look more tinted. My Alero is like this - the dealer tinted the back window and now all the windows look like they are tinted much darker than they are. It is a surprising effect.

$50 ticket?! mine cost $115... i got it about 6 months ago. thats right, tinting tickets went up. I got pulled over for doing 68 in a 50, and the guy told me to roll up my window for an instant tint ticket. so 8 days later, i get pulled over just for tint by a different cop, different road, showed him my previous ticket for tint last week and he said he would have to write me another ticket or rip it off. i was super mad... but i just had a couple pints so i didnt argue too much, just ripped it off.
