does anyome know the posibilities of a 5th gen drivetrain in a 68?

I did an LS1 and T56 swap into my 1st-gen (henceforth the username) and there are very few differences with the LS3.

This swap has been done with just about every LS based engine at this point. It's very doable.

Well having installed a corvette rearend under a 1st gen I would have to say yes without a problem. As long as you have a frame bench, the knowledge, a creative mind and lots of patients. Trust me putting an independent rear axle under a 1st gen and making it look good but yet preform well is no easy task. however now that I think about it could it maybe to wide for a 1st gen? Damn it now you got me thinking.

Not a fan of the body kit they put on there, but everything else they did is just phenomenal.

John, all it takes is $$$. You really need to have a very good background in metal fab and mocking up to get it right. If not, take it to a good shop and spend the money. Attachment points, bracing, alot needs to be modified to make it a safe vehicle that doesn't twist itself up and send you flying into a tree the first time you stand on it.

Possible engine placement issue using 5th gen front subframe, engine sits well toward the rear of front spindle centerline.

Rear axle well should be checked for adequate space.

You notice the 5th gen is subframed front and rear, somewhat similar to 1st gen. The 5th gen monocoque is ALOT stronger than 1st gen, probably need to fab full frame with 5th gen driveline mounting points and 1st gen body mounts.

Get yourself some CAD drawings of each car and start playing with it.

Hum but the rear end is not going to be easy to mount in a 68.

Stick to solid axle and maybe an LSx engine unless you want to spend the money.

Didn't you ask about putting a 2010 powertrain in a 1st gen earlier today? If you have about 20-40 grand would be the cost.

It would require serious mod of the underbody and frame. Electronics. Electrical harness. Engine compartment. And then you have to come up with the powertrain components.

If you want an LS3 by itself then that's another non Camaro thing because GM sells the engine in Crate form. Unless you gutted it from a 2010 Camaro.

thanks for the input. I'd like to install the entire powertrain. I was hoping to use wrecked 5th gen vehicles. So far the estimated cost is around 20k plus labor. I think it would be sweet. Just wondering about the modifications. Is there a better idea under 30k?

Are you talking just engine and transmission, or the entire rear and suspension assembly as well? The engine and trans swap will NOT cost 20-30k. My LS1/T56 swap cost probably about 10k...I did this entirely in my dad's garage on a $12 an hour wage during college.

im talking entire powertrain with wiring, suspension and bracing. im going off of what i have been told. you have done this, i am getting suggestions. hopefully it will be closer to your number. since i cant have original, i look forward to a injected, smooth ride and shift.
