Stupid question probably, but why are people getting rid of the center speaker channel?

I haven't heard of anyone. I guess I missed something.

I would assume if you got rid of it, you had a plan of putting something in it's place. Boost gauges or something.

YUP, sign me up for something! I am center speaker-less!

Need to install a boost gauge and possibly an AFR/IAT if we can get a pod to accept 2 smaller gauges...

Not sure if there is a formal right up but it is literally as easy as:

1. using something to protect the dash (towel, plastic sheet etc) use a non-marring tool preferably or just be really careful and use a panel removal tool or similar and pry up at the rear edge (toward rear of car) to release the rear clips. Pry near the corners more as that is where the clips are located.
2. Lift upward and the two forward clips will come undone and you can remove the grill
3. Using a stubby phillips screwdriver or a 6mm(?? can't remember the size exactly) socket, and remove the 2 screws holding the speaker in the dash
4. Press the black clip at one edge of the connector on the speaker and disconnect it
5. Using foam or a small towel/rag, wrap the now loose connector up and tuck down into the speaker opening
6. NOTE: the forward edge(front of car) of the grill has 3 tabs! You MUST insert these first before proceeding to push the grill down into the mounting holes. The clips will clip into place and you are DONE!

is there a grill on the center speaker? if there is, just take it off, have a ring made (metal or MDF) that fits the gauge you want, go buy some spandex material at joanns or you local fabric store, mount the ring where you want the gauge to sit, stretch the fabric over the whole thing, staple it or glue it to the shape you want, go buy some fiberglass resin at ACE Hardware or even home depot mix up a batch, soak the fabric, then sand, bondo, sand, bondo, sand and then either paint it or stretch vinyl over it... wire and mount the gauge, put the grill back in place and your done.

or

take it to your local stereo shop and have one of the enclosure builders do it... anyone with some glassing experience should be able to build it for you fairly easy.

If somebody has a hook up for forming ABS I'd rather go that route.

I emailed Lo-Tek to see how much demand/qty. there has to be.

For those that want gauges up there, do as Topdown states.

For those that just want to improve stereo imaging, wire an L-Pad pot in series with the center speaker. Adjust the L-Pad up until you just notice that you can no longer hear the center speaker. Now you'll have better imaging and you still get the "front stage" effect from the center speaker. I believe that Part Express would have the L-Pads.

This is the response I got from Lo-Tek:

We are making a double unit that fits in the console area in front of the shifter. It should be available in about 3-4 weeks. Check our web site in a few weeks.

Best regards,
Dennis
Lo-Tek, Inc.

I don't really have an interest in gauges down there. I rarely even notice the stock ones.
