My experience...
I had a 2002 LS1 SS automatic..... I had ebay headers, lid, and a tune. I ran in the middle heat of summer 25 minutes straight to the track, right onto the strip with no cool down, and ran a 13.0 @ 108 right off the bat... I have a 2010 LS3 now, and I have yet to muster any better than a 13.4 at the same track (although this was last summer with no mods except the same exhaust... my intake may have helped, but I dont think tunes help much on manuals)... My summary... I dont care what anyone else says, in my own opinion, my 02' SS was the fastest, best drag car I have ever had. I really love my 10' SS .... but damn If I was on a lie detector test and had to answer what the best/fastest drag car I have ever had... it would be that 02'. I say, go out there with no worries. Sounds like you've got a good lower mile car, and if it has not been abused, you'll walk that new SS ... especially in this heat. Miss my LS1 ... and trust me, I am not biased... I REALLY LOVE MY LS3...

Depends on the driver. My Camaro will pull on the TA pretty well from a roll, but from a dig the TA holds up a little better. In the end though the Camaro has been faster every time.

Hate to say it, but I'm also on the side with the '02 .
However, it's ULTIMATELY a DRIVER'S RACE . Traction (or lack thereof) and proper launch are critical for both cars. Whichever one slips up off the line, loses. |

I had an 01 firehawk with T56, SLP headers, lid, and the 1LE packagage. I never took it to the track but that thing was a beast. I just bought an 12 1ss and although it's brand new so I haven't really messed with it too much, my butt-o-meter tells me that the hawk would have killed the SS.

My friend has a 2000 z28 m6 h/c car at 420rwhp. When I had full bolt ons @ ~430rwhp I beat him from a 40-130 roll (local air strip) by about 1 car 3 times in a row. In his defense I think his tune needs a bit of work...he could be down ~15hp from optimal. Their is a long thread about the race on ls1tech that no one would believe lol...he even replied in it and is a long time member. Most HATE this car on ls1 tech... He just messed with me the other day for a bit now that we have equal mods...I literally pulled him like he never hit the gas lol. These cars are STRONG from a roll. The weight is heavily negated and you dont have to worry about traction nearly as much. OP...from a roll he gets you....from a stop it is up to his driving...I would bet on you having an auto and DR's. Also...seat of the pants is a horrible gauge of performance. I didnt even want to race my friends car when I had bolt ons. I thought he was going to DESTROY me. Now that I have 505rwhp my car SOTPants feels about equal to his now. But that is FAR from the truth. |

This is a super old thread, but I did end up running him and beating him by a little less than 1/2 a car! It was close and he was reeling me hard at the top end. I got a really good launch. 1.8 '60 on 275 nitto 555r's. and ran a 12.91 @ 106. So got both my goals

Good kill man, and a very solid run! Personaly though, it was not a far race! If one guy is on tires so should the other, unless your roll racing. But like I said, nice pass for that car!
