LED Sidemarkers that look like OEM
OK, here is the deal, I want LED sidemarker lights that still have the reflector like OEM. Being a LEO, I know that the reflector is mandated by NHTSA as well as DOT and I for one, don't want to loose that safety factor on my car. There is a purpose for them to reflect and a reason whey the fronts are amber or yellow and the rear red. This being said, is there anyone out there that can refer me to a manufacturer who can provide sidemarkers like this, P&P of course and since I've had a vasectomy, it won't require me giving up my next unborn, a 2nd mortgage, standing on the corner with a sign telling people "I'm the real man with a God given voice." In other words, reasonably priced sidemarkers that meet the specifications that I seek. I'm ready to pull the trigger on some if I can get them without breaking the bank.
If anyone knows something, please let me know. Thanks!

You may just have to put LED bulbs in your side marker lights.
Also, Oklahoma only requires reflectors on vehicles that are wider then 80 inches. I looked, but the only thing the NHTSA and DOT talks about are buses, trucks (real trucks), and trailers. It may be up to individual states to make requirements on POV's, while the feds make requirements on commercial vehicles. See if your state actually requires it. For Oklahoma, its: Title 47: Motor Vehicles Chapter 12 - Equipment of Vehicles Article 2 - Lamps and Lighting Devices Section 12-211 - Visibility of Reflectors - Clearance Lamps and Marker Lamps. |

Side marker lamps became required for large trucks and buses on January 1, 1968, and on January 1, 1969, for all other vehicles. These small lamps are illuminated when the headlights are on and serve as reflectors at other times. The side marker lamps enhance conspicuity such that the would-be-impacting vehicle can take evasive maneuvers. Prior to their introduction, vehicles had no side illumination. A NHTSA analysis7 found that side marker lamps result in a 16-percent reduction in nighttime, side-angle collisions. The effectiveness was slightly higher in accidents with personal injury, at 21 percent, although no fatality-reduction benefit was evident. Excerpt taken from NTSHA - http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/811115.PDF Also the reflector is for function in the event of total power loss, the oncoming traffic can still see the a car from the side and be able to ascertain whether its the front or rear of the car.

You could always use a reflective strip of tape under the LED's over the paint.

I would just look at replacing the current bulb with an LED bulb. All of the concept style 'strips' that I've come across eliminate the reflector portion.

I've yet to see any from Showstoppers that still has the reflective part still showing or in tact. Again, I don't want a strip of it showing but the entire reflector as from factory with the LED strip in place. I haven't seen any post from Showstoppers on providing such, so it may be something they and AAC don't do or provide.

Pretty sure they don't make this, as you are undoubtedly in the minority of people who would actually want this as opposed to the styles that are offered.
Just swap out an LED bulb I guess. I don't think you have much choice in this.

If that is the case, I guess my question now would be if there is an LED bulb replacement that would work with having to add a resistor or load cap so it will work and trick the cars electrical system in believing there is no burned out bulb in place.

Car only cares about the brake and turn signal lights from what I have seen. You shouldn't need resistors

I guess if this is the case, all I need to know is a buld size in LED to fit all four corners, suppose.
