First 2017 Camaro ZL1 video/images in broad daylight and versus 5th gen ZL1

Hi all,

Just joined the forum, been reading threads about the amazing camaros and your wonderful owner-stories for a while now.

Now just the opposite to the “lost in the woods” ZL1 photos that were posted the other day with camouflage in the middle of the forest:
I wanted to share with you the following video that I discovered today

It’s the first time I got to see a ZL1 under broad daylight without the camo. Wondering who brought that stunning trio of 1970/2015/2017 ZL1 to this Ontario Camaro show. The video had only about 10views when I stumbled upon it this afternoon.

Maybe to my person as some of you might start wondering what a Swiss & Range Rover guy is doing here: I’ve been going back and forth between Florida and Switzerland since I was a kid, and will soon be relocating to Miami (around Fall 2016...the later the better in terms of ZL1 availabitlity) again.

I cannot wait to finally see some more info on the ZL1 as I’m very keen on buying a Hyberblue (or perhaps also the kind of “mundane looking” silver/iceblue color on the press photos) ZL1 CONVERTIBLE as a daily driver. Here in Switzerland I currently drive a Range Rover, an old Hippie VW Camping Bus (1974 & 1988) and sometimes also my brother’s anthracite 2016 Challenger.

Hope you guys find the different angles and lightning conditions on this red ZL1 video just as interesting as I did. Nice to find something new and to see the car in a different setting than the indoor/press/NYIA photos. Especially the rims look much more unique now. Kind of a greyish tone.

I’m currently undergoing a shoulder surgery so I’m off work waiting to recover and I must admit there’s nothing better than having some extra time at home to check out ZL1 infos, youtube videos and to turn up the sound on the different B-Roll videos that were provided when the car was revealed.

Y'all have a great rest of Monday and offtopic but I need to contribute some european support & express my thoughts for #prayfororlando as these were just heartbreaking news.

They treat us Canadians so well, giving us the first look again.. Didn't make it down to see it. Would have been nice.

Awesome find!!

I have been eager to see a 5th gen ZL1 next to a 6th gen ZL1....it looks as I suspected, even when they're together - the 6th gen is sharper and meaner. More presence, and I didn't really think that was possible.

"How'd the Gen 6 ZL1 come about?"

"Well...see...someone let a 2012 ZL1 and a 2012 Charger SRT8 alone one night..."

Sorry, haven't been able to warm up to the looks of the 6th gen ZL1 yet. I think the 5th gen ZL1 looks sleeker and more aerodynamic (of course I'm just a little biased). The front license plate really hurts the look of the 5th gen in the photo. I can't help but think of a Lexus sports sedan every time I see the front of the 6th gen ZL1.

Awesome to see some pics out in the wild. Looks great and in my opinion looks much meaner than the 5gen ZL1. Great first post!

I didn't know this was bugging people, weird. I don't see much of any resemblance. What bugs me more is the black skunk strip from the roof to the back wing, looks horrible.

Thanks, great find! I really appreciate the pictures of the 5th and 6th Gen. together and side by side. We will see how it compares to its older brother before we make any decisions.

I have to be honest, seeing it next to the Gen5 ZL1 tames the Gen6 a bit for me. Not that it doesn't look fantastic and not that I would not want to get my hands on one as soon as they are available....but I think the Gen5 holds it's own quite nice next to little brother.

Now I fully expect the driving experience to be quite different but just based on just pure aesthetics of these photos I don't think older brother has anything to be shy about.

My problem is that I have so much money in my current ZL1 and driving it like hanging out with an old friend, especially on track days, that it is going to be hard moving to this new one without some sadness as I don't need two.

Why does the grill area on the 6th gen look like it's been totally blocked off ?

Agree...good eyes you have! I changed the shadow/contrast and took a closer look with the 2160p4k resolution of the video. It seems that only the upper part of the main grill is covered and still it shows a whole where the tow hook goes.

Any guesses?

I believe the covered part is the bumper crash bar, the structural part of the front fascia
