Track Prep Checklist

Hey All,


Just picked up a Hyper Blue 2018 1LE.


I do intend to track this car but wanted to see the check list to prep these things for the track and some mods needed. Power train is stock and I plan on keeping it that way for awhile.


Currently OEM wheels with PS4s on it - probably fine for the occasional track day but I think a set of LW wheels with some good rubber would be first up.



Harnesses - I know most of them require a roll bar to mount. Any easy ones that don't and if not what is a good setup? I would like to be able to keep the rear seat as I do have a youngin that likes to go for rides in a carseat.



Track alignment - figured one wheels and tires are sorted this would be the next step.


Anything else I am missing?

Dot 4 brake fluid is a must! Castrol SRF, Motul 600/660, Brembo HTC64T, just to name a few.
Racing pads, depending on your skill level. The OEM pads will be sufficient otherwise.

ps4s are ok on track but the stock goodyear are waaay better but upgrade fluid and stock pads are fine dont forget track alignment

No harnesses without a bar. Just put the seat into entry/exit mode, run belt all the way out, tighten it up then close door.

If you crash a roof collapses with harnesses/no roll protection high likelihood of serious neck injuries.

The stock 3r are a great tire, follow performance supplement for track prep then enjoy the car

As others have said, GY3Rs are the best track tire for ZL1s. They were designed for this car and have the perfect compound and sidewall to handle the weight and provide high speed cornering grip up to 1.2+ Gs.

You can also switch oil to M1 15w50, but if not a ZLE it's not required on track for warranty--at least use M1 0w40 ESP or other Dexos 2 Xw40, vs Dexos 2 Xw30.

OEM brake pads are great for everyone including experts.

+ Track alignment and DOT 4--I recommend Castrol SRF or Brembo HTC64, the Motul 660 didn't work well in my ZLE

run the factory belts unless you go "all in". Other recommendations above are excellent.

everything they said above!

1. never harnesses without a rollbar. that means don't use a 'harness bar' for harnesses. if it rolls and the roof crunches in you're neck will get squashed.
2. fresh high temp brake fluid totally flushed out for each weekend
3. fresh oil for every weekend (at bare minimum every other weekend)
4. track alignment with more neg camber to utilize the entire tire and not hack up the outside edge especially the front tires

the above isn't ZL1 specific; this is sort of generic for any car. cars with more marginal brakes absolutely need race pads and cooling ducts, but it seems that the 1LE comes from the factory with those items basically already.

I've got 15 years road racing experience so I may be different on track pads. I found at the weight of this car and the speeds it's capable of it needed better brake fluid, a dedicated set of track wheels n tires (I went to 19's) and gloc pads.

Slowing from 145 to 25 to make a 90 degree turn on track u will need all the help u can get.
