One word to the wise. Don't assume that going to more displacement than the current 5.4L pumps out means that they will be using the 5.4L block as a basis to get there.

I have a feeling the lsa will be short-lived in the zl1 unless they release another trim level above it. The 5.4 simply has much higher limits than the LSA the way it sits, due to the hypereutectic pistons, and it seems obvious that ford is just going to keep bumping the power to trump the camaro. LS9 time, break out those big guns!

Ah, here we go.. I won't post a link but there is a Coyote 5.0 that shared the 5.4's deck height and displaced 5.8 liters. It was axed due to CAFE sh!t but still exist. It host TiVCT (now) as it is an actual 5.0 Coyote...
Edit: It was called the "long stroke 5.0" and was said to be bulletproof, weight reduction would be around 31lbs if a TVS is used, 37lbs with a Valley TT and then add in the 30lbs for the Getrag MT82 over the TR6060... Edit #2: The long stroke was intended to over come a small bore/stroke's torque and assist again once a supercharger is added. A TT application would benefit as a long stroke would take care of low end turbo lag... Thats all I know... Last edited by thePill; 03-15-2011 at 07:29 PM. |

The only Gt-500 I have driven is the 2007 MY with more boost. The Gt-500 problem is not a lack of Power but Traction, thanks in part to crappy stock tires. Coming out of a slow corner, it was hard to keep the tires from spinning . With 600+hp I hope ford atleast use PS2 tires and get rid of those Goodyears, or they could use goodyear g2s like the ZL1 uses.

All GM has said is that the ZL-1 will have 550+ HP. They haven't even shown their hand yet. Surely you didn't expect Ford to not respond.

How far does everyone think the lsa can go before they start to worry about having issues in mass production? From what I've seen on the caddi forums, I'd say no more than 630-650hp max. I know the LSA can handle more, but you have to be a lot more careful of knock when it comes to hypereutectic pistons and in a production vehicle the tune will have to be very adaptable. Anyone have any input?
I hope both companies start dropping weight instead of just pumping up the power numbers. |

I'm guessing the ZL1 will come out with 575. At that point it's just a bigger blower away from 600. Even though the CTS-V and ZL1 have a TVS blower, the LSA comes with a 1.9L head unit. The LS9 in the ZR1 comes with a 2.3L. They make that swap and 600hp all day long.
