The head looks like it got brushed with a plasma cutter and is not worth saving. The cylinder, at least the iron liner held up great, but the supporting aluminum just out side of the liner is a little eroded. I'm hoping the guys at ERL can pull that liner, fix the imperfection in the deck, and then install a new liner. With everyone at SEMA right now, it will be middle of the week before I get any response regarding this type of repair, but I have high hopes! All in all I'm very impressed with the quality and durability of this motor.
Nice.

I'd live an engine like that.

Sorry I haven't posted in here for a while been pretty busy with work and don't get on C5 much lately... Glad to see you made it out there for the mile run with Brandi! Too bad on the issue with the gasket but 197 looked real easy for her so no more talk about 200 I think you should be shooting for 220 sand bagger lol. Get er done and stay safe Brotha, I'll try and check in more often.

Good luck with the rapairs my friend. It'll be back and better than ever. That's the upside to things breaking, ha-ha . Running the car up in the mile sounds like a blast, and I hope you shatter some records when the build is complete.

It does give me a warm fuzzy feeling despite the issue at hand... Corey stood behind ERL and so do I... We made the decision to stick with the LS3 heads. that's entirely on me.. As long as the deck can be repaired and the rest of it is ok, I'm good with going back in the car with the same motor. Better heads pf course, and if ERL has the block, I'm going to ask Corey if they can configure it for a six bolt head pattern...

My goal for the weekend was 220.... Just didn't have time to push it that far... We'll be back out there soon..

I hear you on the busy at work... Glad to see you back on even if sparingly...

Brandi will be fine and better than ever... The mile run is about the most fun I've ever had in a car... Ahem... But yeah, it's amazing...

So.... I just got some news that made my day.

Corey sent me a note that ERL said no problem fixing the block.

They will make the needed repairs, upgrade to 1/2 inch head studs for 60% more clamping power, hone the cylinders to a 4.130 Bore to get a new cylinder surface with new pistons....

Can you say, 429 Cubic Inches of Bad Arse Boosted Motor...

I thought about that, but if ERL is confident with it, as well as a couple of other big shops that will remain un-named, then I'm fine with it as well...

Hmm....and that would hold just as well as 6 bolt heads?

Either way, good deal. I'm happy you got some good news!

No, it wont have the same clamping force as a 6 bolt head to my knowledge, but I'm firmly believing it will do what we need...

I hope B don't mind if I post a comment and pic from his build..... I know he used LSX block, but wonder if it's possible to cut for the o-ring on an aluminum block...

Quote:
This is a close up of the tempered stainless wire put in the o-ring groove cut in the block. It works fantastic and does not lose its positive seal once you torque it. Harder to install but well worth it. Also, the head gaskets themselves have a special aircraft coating added to them which unfortunately cost $100/cylinder head, but this combination ensures no blown head gaskets under high boost.
