brake calipers on 2010 camaro?
I have 22k miles on my 2010 camaro.. and the brakes were grinding. so i took it in to a brake shop and they said my pads were worn down.. they also said that my calipers were aluminum and i should replace them because the aluminum ones wear down the pads faster. is there any truth to this.. and has anyone else had their breaks grinding at only 20k miles?

Sounds like they r trying to pull one over on you. The calipers shouldn't need replacing.
As far as pads go, depending on you driving style is when they r gonna need replacing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

20k is a bit soon, but how aggressive do you drive? Are you one to slam on the brakes more often then coasting and then gently braking?
Performance brake pads wear down quicker than regular pads. So that's no something unusual or new. I've never heard the comment about aluminum calipers though. Seems a bit shady to me

I have 80K miles on my car and the pads are fine.
It sounds like your shop is low on work.

If they were grinding, I'd wonder more about the condition of your rotors than the calipers. Calipers should last the life of the car, normally.

Grinding from wear indicators would happen at all speeds every time you apply the brakes. A high pitched squeal is just a vibration - annoying but not really a problem. Brake squeal is often intermittent and usually occurs at low speeds. It is possible (albeit unlikely) that you need new pads, but the caliper material doesn't affect brake wear since the pads only wear against the rotors. I'm guessing that you were quoted a pretty high number for the repairs. I suggest you get a 2nd opinion before doing anything.

I would pull the pads myself and regrease the bolts and stuff. My jeeps brakes where squeeling for awhile until I regreased everything. If you live close enough I'll help you out. No one should have to pay to have brakes done they are way to easy to work on.

um your calipers should not need replacing. If they do then i would tell them it should be under a factory warranty because of the low miles.
