So, why didnt they use the Escalade L92 instead of the L99?

Its a 6.2L V8. It makes 3 more horsepower, 7 more lb-ft of torque (Admittedly, not a huge difference, but a difference nonetheless). It has AFM. It has no problem adjusting to various octane levels. Its mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 automatic transmission. And its already been developed...............

I believe the L92 has an iron block which probably means an extra 150 pounds.

I believe the L92 is more of a heavy duty version of the L99 which is iron block and is for truck/suv use

Should have 200lbs on the L99 as well

Edit- Hylton was quicker than me lol ... what he said

Yeah the 6.2 that goes in the trucks does not have AFM. Buddy just bought one and I could have sworn they did but they do not!

The L92 is an aluminum block/head motor (http://archives.media.gm.com/us/powe...10truck_us.htm). It has AFM, VVT and is E85 capable for 2010. As far as construction and rotating assembly, I believe the L99 and L92 are darn near identical to eachother. Only real difference is the lack of E85 capability.

There's a ton more development that goes into engines than simply popping it out of one vehicle and into another. A truck engine would have to have the intake manifold redone, the oil pan redesigned, the exhaust revisited, accessories adjusted, revalidated in a lighter vehicle, ....and by the time you finish doing what you need to to fit it into a car...you've got an LS3 because ALL GM V8s share the same architecture.

Then there's timing, and air-intake, and cams, and block-materials, and casting output (not all blocks are cast identically)...

They created the L99 based off the LS3 because it was the closest to what they needed.
