L99 gears 3.45 or 3.70?

in the process of adding a circle-D 3200 stall, 18" Drag radials and E.T. streets and the car WILL see a 125 shot next spring... for the L99 guys, is 3.70s too much gear for the street? I know DRs will be must with a 3200 stall but I'm not wanting TOO much gear(as in prepped track on ET streets or I go up in smoke, lol) and I can get a set of 3.45s pretty cheap...

A 3.70 will put you into 5th gear by the end of the 1/4. Not to mention it'll be way to much on the launch. Go 3.45's.

I had 3.70 gears and changed to 3.45 gears for exactly the reason Jamie mentioned above.

What about for higher power levels? Or are 3.45s in general what work for an auto?

The last time that I was at the track,I crossed the line at about 5700RPM in 4th gear. mph was 118.

28" DR. 3.45 gears. torque converter flash at 2000RPM.Cammed car.
I now have a 3400RPM converter in it,hopefully will run it at the track again soon.

3.45 it is... now anyone know about this company? or another source for 3.45s?

I'm going to check with Performance Torque Converters(PTC, huge name for torque converters here in the South and is local to me, like 10 miles from my house, lol) about getting a converter for a 6L80E through them, but if not, I can get a 11" built through Circle-D with a 3200 stall shipped to my door for around $550, Yank and TCI are ridiculously priced on their converters...

Get the GM 3.45's

Stay away from the PTC. It's a great converter... In a different car. We have one in the grand national. It's at PTC right now.

Go with the Circle D. Get use to camaro parts being overpriced. It's just how it is.

I cross the line in 4th gear with 3.70s with no problem and ran a 1.50 60'. I do agree that a 3.45 to 3.50 gear is better on high horsepower applications and makes for easier tuning especially on the 6l.

I would recommend a multi disk converter from Circle-D I had a PTC and was not happy a Circle-D was a way better one , the 6L80Es respond very well with multi disk a lil pricey but way worth it.

If you get a triple disc Circle D converter, 3.70 will definitely not be too much gear with a stock height tire! You will be able to lock the converter which does change the equation. In a bolt on car this is the perfect gear.

However, once you add nitrous, your hp may throw you over the rpm limit. I would say it could be close but probably slightly run out of gear.

Really depends on which set up you want to optimize. Your NA bolt on set up, or your nitrous set up! If your goal is to have the fastest time with your nitrous then I would say 3.45's.

Fyi, I don't think Yank sells a triple disc either,

the reason I want to go single disc is... this car is a daily driver(well not really, more like weekend warrior, lol... I do have another car for work)... I know a multi-disc is very beneficial, but I think the characteristics of a single disc will better fit what I want out of my car... its not really a cost issue so much as it is, harsh lockup vs. non-harsh lockup...
