My sister complained about having a hard time seeing out in the passenger seat one time when I took her out in it. My solution I have her sit in the back from now on.

(.......well - we all love ferrets, but the seatbelt will not save him/her......)

How'd you know I had a ferret? Are you spying on me through OnStar?

I just went to the local Truevalue and looked through the hardware isle. I used two automotive grade bolts and four 1/2'' spacers, two spacers under each side.

Guess I'm going to truevalue as I could only find one hardened bolt in my stock bins.

My wife an I took a test drive in an SS today. I wanted to have her see how the passenger side seat was... while it was low, and visibility wasn't great, that isn't the real issue. The seat is low enough, that it puts extra pressure on the legs, as there isnt a way to make the seat support the legs. It's actually the front of the seat that would need to tilt upwards to give support to the legs. If she can't be comfortable in the car for any decent period of time, the car will be a NO GO! PLEASE GM FIX THIS!!!

Couldn't you just get another drivers seat and switch the controls and buckle over to the other side of the seat? Or would there need to be extensive wiring done to accomplish this?

NO. The passenger seat has the sensors for the airbag that will disable the airbag if there is no person or small person in the front seat (or briefcase, etc) the drivers seat doesnt do this. bad idea.

though, I wonder, are the load sensors, etc attached to the seat bottom/back or the seat framework? if it's just the seat bottom/back then maybe the tracks could be swapped?

I wonder if the G8 pass seat would work, same Zeta architecture, but who knows about the seat mountings.

I am gonna play devils advocate for a moment. Now I am not an engineer, but I began to wonder what would happen with the longer bolts in a frontal impact situation. By using spacers and longer bolts to raise the seat, aren't you changing the center of gravity of the seat, thereby raising the amount of stress on the bolts?

Basically what I am trying to say is if the origianl bolt is 2 inches long, and 1 3/4 inches of the bolt is imbedded in the frame, and you replace it with a 4 inch long bolt that now has over half its lenght exposed due to the spacers. How strong is this setup compared to the stock setup? Just curious.

what if gm wasn't a cheap ass and put in a real power passenger seat? I had a 10 way power passenger seat on my 99 suburban, I paid 6500 for that truck. But I cant get a power passenger seat on a modern 40k sports car?

The force on those bolts is far increased. In an accident (or any force for that matter) puts stress on everything. Including your body, That feeling is also stressing the seat. If those bolts are all thats holding your seat that your seat belt is attached to, then thats the weakest link. Your system is only as strong as the weakest part. Even if it feels tight and fine, over the years of hard acceleration and 150-300 pounds of human flesh in there. Will slowly weaken in. Then an accident might just be the final tug and it would fail. I would not recommend this.
