Price per HP I would say the GMPP are the standard others porting has to beat and some do not do so well. Porting runners to various sizes can have different effects for stock , but aftermarket casting cost so much more they had better well outshine a stock ported by far to justify the price increase is how I feel it is for me. And porting ones own heads costs some real dough compared to $1250 new heads( 1250-750=500) ,(if a L99 a person gets the hollow stem intakes on the new heads,( which need good springs to match any cam), its much more financially feasible for them:( as the springs are beehive .550 lift I think : on it are for low lift like GMPP ASA cam lift .....525 ish with lots of duration and low 110 LSA, so plan on replacing them) , Of the many comparisons I have read I was lead to the GMPP heads for value and performance versus real data from many other major shops porting with the same or worse many times data, and a few that did better but the cost goes up. I think Dickey Scoggins was a name that's come up with a good porting of the stock heads for better than the stock CNC program. And that's a dealership, and more reasonable than some.

If money were no Limit I would go Mast or others Small bore ls7 head/ MSD Airforce and Frankenstein them most likely with the Invisible money in my wallet....the one that caught on fire , its still cooling off as I pay down ....And the Airforce has nice reinforcements for the NOS ports if I ever go down the road to spray.

And being that the LS7 heads have 1.8 rockers a mild cam would have its lift multiplied more for effective power gain, as in 1.7 to 1.8 effects a .600 cam to a .635 cam in terms of lift sort of like this.... 500"/1.7x1.8 =529.4" , .550"/1.7x1.8=582", .600"/1.7x1.8=.635
And the massive airflow numbers for some ported ls7 heads would support a lot......but then again so would a entire ls7....lol or a .... LSX iron block stroker mega cube N/A with a tunnel ram type intake, or forged low comp for FI.... AH dreams........
